Meh.
The cops just arrested the guy, they were doing their job.
Now if KC pressed charges on the guy, they'd be in for a helluva media nightmare.

you issue shouldnt be with the cops for doing the jobs, but the people that made these rules happen. you know people that sue for doing things they are not supposed to.
there is a reason the stadium do not wont someone in their fountains and is all about liability, what would have happen if the dumbfrick would have hit his head when jumping in the fountain and drowned or gotten paralyzed. would you then expect the royals to pay for his hospital bills?

quote:so what if its just a regular home run and they trespass to get the ball? arrest or no? what if its a stud rookie's first HR? what if its the fan's birthday? where do you draw the line? do you really want a rent-a-cop making those decisions? if you have a problem with the policy, fine, but its not the cop's discretion as to who gets a pass, and who doesnt. its black and white: get in the fountains, get arrested aNd fined.
If the specific facts of this situation were considered, the person would not have been arrested.

The Royals charge anyone that offense. Putting it on the officers to follow the spirit is stupid. If you have problem with what happened take it up with the Royals not THe police
Cops work for the government, not the Royals.

This is stupid. The royals made sure the punishment for jumping into the fountains was spelled out. The fan knew what he was getting into when he jumped in. You can't just hand free passes and allow for grey areas to pop up.
Eta: also it's not the cops fault. They were just following orders.

This guy is getting national attention, get out of jail pass and is going to get some cool memorabilia at the end of this. He broke the rules but knew what he was doing. It was a calculated move on his part. He is not a victim here.

Your belief isn't a personal attack we just happen to disagree
was there a time when this guy wouldn't have been arrested?
sure.
but back then the park security would have taken him to a back alley and beaten him senseless.

Take that nonsense somewhere else. You think the officers should have risked their jobs to let a guy who is facing a fine?
I see what you're saying. The officer pretty much HAD to arrest him. I doubt if he was being an arse. The charge will be thrown out.

Isn't the spirit of the law to keep people out of the goddamn fountain? I'd say this is in accordance with the spirit of the law then. But I don't understand why the ball gets taken from him.
Posted on 8/20/12 at 9:10 am to dawgfan24348
Yeah, Dunn will help him out, but come on. The park is there for the fans. If a fan jumps in a fountain to get a REALLY nice little souvenir (however temporary) courtesy and good business policy dictate leniency. No need to give the man a record.

Anyone care to take a stab at why the law was written in the first place?
Posted on 8/20/12 at 11:05 am to dawgfan24348
He didn't catch it. He illegally dove into the fountain for the ball.

No, he believes that rules like this are in place for a reason, and that if you allow this guy to skate, then you are exposing yourself to a great deal of liability.
