"George RR Martin is not your bitch." - Neil Gaiman
George started this series for himself, no one else. If he wants to take his sweet arse time he can take his sweet arse time. Read his other works if you're so obsessed. I have, and have really enjoyed them. Especially Fevre Dream. His 1000 Worlds stories are really fun, too. I even got the first three volumes of Wild Cards in today, and even though they're collaborative stories I can't wait to start them. Read the Accursed Kings series by Duron that Martin has said influenced him a lot. Hell, with that series he had to wait until recently for all seven books to be translated. It was either that or learn French. It's as if people act like there isn't similar books out there to enjoy.
It's crazy how some people exclaim how complex A Song of Ice and Fire is, but seem to think that such complexity can be easily put to paper. Martin has created a world enriched in a fictional history that people forget that it's not easy to write a series that focuses so much on that history. I'm glad he is taking his time and not rushing through it, that's going to make the end that much better. And if he doesn't finish it, oh well, I have really enjoyed the experience.
