ah. I see what you're saying. This could be seen to highlight his extreme development and transformation. He went from some arrogant kid who lusted for glory to a nostalgic elderly man who finally realizes what he had. I think I can agree that the show did a better job of making him sympathetic though.

I agree with this. And Fall has lasted four/five books because Dance runs concurrently with Feast. So hypothetically if Martin wouldn't use time jumps it should take him another roughly 4 books to get to the end of Winter. Maybe. If he wraps the series up in two books then it seems to me that would only get us 2-3 years into Winter. I was under the impression that this Winter could potentially last like a decade.

Unless Summer/Fall is tied to the White Walkers which is highly likely. I'd imagine Winter will cease if they are defeated.

Yeah. Makes sense. Hopefully we find out.
I also just think that a few of the characters could possibly do with a few more years where they are at. Rickon could be older in order to be a significant player. Arya could use a few more years training with the Faceless Men. Bran could also use a few years training as a greenseer. And it would make sense for it to take Dany a few years to arrive in Westeros with an army.

GRRM has promised an explanation for the haywire seasons. He claims it even makes sense.

All this is why he wanted to have a five year gap between the end of ASOS and AFFC. Too bad he couldn't make it work, it would have spared us the horrible Dany chapters in ADWD.

This is more show oriented, but just gonna put this here cause I found it amusing:

Agreed. I think both WoW and ADoS will both be like ASoS in terms of pacing and shite hitting the fan.
Yep. Also agree that defeating the Others ends the Winter. As for Jon and Dany, I think they marry AFTER the war, the story ends with them getting together.
Another crackpot theory (not mine): I'm buying into the theory that Jon is Rhaegar and Lyanna's son and Ed swore to protect him. With that
Dany is a Targ, Jon is a Targ
Jon got the warg stuff from his Stark side, gives him the ability to control the dragons
Dany (Fire) loved a savage (Drago) who died and was burned
Jon (Ice) loved a savage (Ygritte) who died and froze
There are a lot of other little things, too.

I don't like the Jon Dany happily ever after Crackpot theory either.
Like I said, Jon is of "The North," and can only really picture him with Wildling womenz or Northern women. He isn't too crazy about the Southern ways and still worships the Old Gods/prays by Weirwood trees/Godswood.
I think some of that is because of my own disdain for Dany and her shenanigans/how she's been coddled her whole life into thinking her father was great, everyone else in Westeros is evil, etc.
But who knows, I could be wrong. I think if Jon is Azor Ahai, I could picture her being Nissa Nissa and dying for the greater good.

Yeah, Iwan Rheon is awesome, he's a great actor with a ton of range. I highly recommend the British show Misfits, he was great in that show as well.

Ok, let's get cracka lackin, then How about this:
Melissandre is said to have a heart-shaped face, and talks about the fiery heart of R'hollor, what if Stannis or John stabs her in the heart? That should put some heat in that blade! Need a few more nude scenes with her, though.

That would be interesting. I could see that happening, actually. Either being killed or willingly wanting to be sacrificed.

I just wanted to drop by and say my ADoD just came in ($20 hardback btw) and I can't wait to shuffle through tis whole thread and try and give my ideas. As well as join the discussion withy fellow nerds.

So someone wrote in the Non-reader season 4 speculation thread that they think R+L=J is possible and wrote it in the Middle Ground thread.
Granted, it's not technically spoilers, but I tried to answer their question as best they could (the poster said they've read books 1 & 2 thus far). Is it an okay topic to discuss in the Middle Ground thread since Ned's dream and all that is in book 1?

I never thought Ramsay would make me laugh. I think they need to show what he does to women to truly see his evilness.
