When was Kobe the best player?

How old are you? Walton was playing with a walker by '86 and probably had knee replacements by then.

Kobe was never as obviously the best player in the league as Jordan, Shaq, and Lebron. It's harder for him bc the years when he was at his peak were the years when he had no supporting cast so he didn't do anything in the playoffs. Unlike those other guys who's peaks coincided with them winning titles

And no it's reversed with Kobe being the old guy

Well you can tell I'm old because now I'm confused as hell.

The Lakers are going to be so interesting bc Kobe will be at best tied for the second best player on the team but you know he'll never play like he is. And it's not even like he's the only mentally tough guy on the team anymore now that they have Nash

Whitlock is butthurt. By that logic Jordan was a glutton for food stamps when he had Pippen, Rodman, Kukoc, Harper, Grant, Armstrong, and Phil.
Jordan = 0 titles
5 seasons without Pippen = 5 LOSING SEASONS
Jordan = 0 titles
5 seasons without Pippen = 5 LOSING SEASONS

Shaq 99-02
Duncan 03-05
Lebron 06-present

is just a stupid fricking article. I guess Shaq did not win a title with the Heat, Wade never won this year, Scottie never one with the Bulls, etc. Who gives a frick if you are the best player or not on the team? Kobe was arguably the second best player in the league and the second best player on the team with the Lakers three-peat. The point is that 98% of the population understands that Jordan should be rated higher than Kobe. Whitlock does not need to spew this garbage. How can you fault someone for playing in a desirable city/franchise with an excellent front office and a couple of nice draft picks?
This is beautiful!

lol wut?
I could see Howard #1, but surely you cant think Nash or Gasol is better or as good as Kobe.
Posted on 8/11/12 at 6:21 pm to 1ranter1
I think on this team, with Howard, Nash will be just as good as Kobe if not better. Nash is going to get Howard and Gasol open layup after open layup after open layup. Nash is one of if not the best pick and roll guard in the league and Howard and Gasol are two of the best finishers in the league off of the pick and roll. Or were you not around when the Lakers got destroyed in back to back second rounds bc kobe ball hogged and refused to take advantage of his team's absurd size advantage? Not to mention Nash is a better spotup shooter than Kobe which is important when playing with Dwight
Posted on 8/11/12 at 6:27 pm to tigerfan88
So if you made a list of the best players in the NBA Kobe would be at best tied with Steve Nash? LOL
Posted on 8/11/12 at 6:29 pm to 1ranter1
In a vacuum? I honestly don't know. I do know Nash almost dragged one of the 5 worst rosters in the league to a playoff spot in a very competitive western conference. But on this Lakers team? No doubt in my mind they'd be in better shape if Kobe gets hurt than if Nash gets hurt

Well Nash's backups are Steve Blake and Chris Duhon. The Lakers just signed Meeks who started 50 games for a playoff team to backup Kobe and if Kobe goes down Artest would go from a spot up shooter to a playmaker which he is much more fit for. So yeah I could see an argument for Nash being more valuable.
But that's not what you initially said. You initially implied that Steve Nash is a better basketball player than Kobe Bryant, which is fricking insane.
