My contractor wants to pour concrete over the grass for a 30X12 slab for a patio. He wants to just cut it real tight . Is this cool?

I'm not sure I am understand this right.
But he just wants to pour it on top of grass? No forms? No wire mesh? No footings?

No it is formed up and he's gonna put down mesh. He does not think he needs to take out the grass

I've never seen grass grow through concrete.

It's gonna start dying as soon as the concrete hits it.

as long as it is level i dont think it would matter since it will all be dead

Probably wont hurt anything.

Do you need that grass somewhere else? Cut it out and sod bare spots in your yard.

Probably not a problem for what it is. I would insist he puts some sort of footing around it, even if it's just a "wedge".

In my opinion, he should at least scrape it.
I have poured a bunch of concrete in the last year with various contractors and every one scraped the grass...
Again, just my opinion.

Remove grass and top soil or you will see differential settlement. May crack the slab. Compact with jumping jack. Run field proctor via DOTD 15-B. Shoot density test with nuclear gauge. Passing is 95 % compaction at 13% moisture. Proof roll with pneumatic double axle truck with 15 tons. Insure proper subgrade modulus.
Then pour concrete at a 3-5 inch slump.

He's doing a patio, not a fricking foundation for a multi story building.

don't forget about doing a hydro-atomic squat ventilator defibrillator compact set.

for this purpose i think a 2-4 would be more practical along with a few stress breaks at 7 & 28 days
