I take it you aren't in sports anymore? Anyone who is good enough and has moved up within a organization wouldn't say this.

I wasn't good enough.
I decided to take a job in the medical field and double my salary

I've heard that a million times.

I have experience in networking with cisco call manager, microsoft server and Active Directory. Just stuff I did in the army.
That's not the type of networking he's talking about.
Best of luck with your search.

I just got my first job in sports, I'm in more of a manager position than marketing. But either way, starting salaries in sports suck, be prepared to make about $30,000 for your first few years

What team do you work for and what is your job title? You must be a pretty big shot wherever you work in order to be so condescending.
Astros? Aeros? Texans?

Yes I do. Communcations(SELA). My cousin is Offensive Coordinator for WVU football team. No one in pro sports. I sold real estate for a while as a civilian and did computer networking in the army. My chances may not be bery good. But I might as well try. Thanks.
So, you have a Communications Degree and know someone that's an OC at a D-1 school (that searching for ~30 seconds told me that there are multiple openings in their Athletic Department... Including an Assistant Director of Communications), and you never thought about picking up the phone?
C'mon man.

I interned in sports and have a sport related degree.
Had a few offers after school, but theres no money in it so I bailed before I took my first job.
Back in school for a math/science field in the petroleum industry.
The money I will be making, will basically allow me to go to any sporting event I want.
Money may not buy happiness, but it'll get me a count hair away from it.

I'm no big shot. This subject comes up every now and then and people give advice like they are 30 years in the sports industry when in reality no one person knows what they are talking about. Or people like you who couldn't cut it and are negative. I am just being bluntly honest. Working in the front office of a pro sports team isn't for everyone. Yes, you can make more money elsewhere. I understand that.

Do you work sales in the front office?
Posted on 7/25/12 at 12:56 pm to Fall Creek Tiger
I know people who do too.
Posted on 7/25/12 at 12:57 pm to TigerHam85
We should hangout then.
Posted on 7/25/12 at 12:57 pm to Fall Creek Tiger
I wasn't being negative.

Premium Sales Executive for the Rockets, eh?
That has you beating your chest?

Not quite, bro. I said I know people. You sound like a stalker.

It's like any job that has its good parts and shitty parts. Being around sports is great, getting paid much less than your value is not so great.
My best friend works in the front office of an NBA team and all of the negative things people have discussed in this thread are all things he has discussed with me. He sticks with it though because he loves working in the sports field.
Your only being bluntly honest from your own view point. People choosing to go elsewhere to make more money does not mean they can't cut it. It might just mean they value more money over their current job in the sports industry.
