I am interested in taking a concealed carry class. But what should I expect? Do I provide my own pistol? If so, does it have to be registered to me, or could it be a family members?
Anyone know where these classes are held around Lafayette? Who should I contact?

What exactly is the law on buying a used gun? I've traded a few guns with guys from bayou shooter and we've always just traded guns and went separate ways.

That's all you have to do

I carry everywhere the law permits me. I carry a Springfield XD 9mm subcompact in a Crossbreed supertuck.
One place I have always carried is malls and movie theaters

Concealed Carry Classes are held at most bass pro shops, Lafayette Shooters (i believe), etc.
I took my course from Gordon Hutchinson. He does a lot around the Baton Rouge Area.
You bring some papers and a firearm with you to the class. They provide targets for you to shoot at. It is a one day about 6-8 hour class. You sit in the classroom for a couple hours. Then you have to pass a shooting test:
The shooting test consists of shooting from three separate distances. The farthest you shoot I believe is 7 yards. You shoot 12 rounds at each distance, and you have to do one reload during those twelve rounds. You simply have to hit all your shots in the silhouette of a human.
After you pass the shooting test (you will) then you go fill out paper work and get your certificate. We had persons who had never shot a handgun before in our class and everyone always passes in Gordon's class.
In the class you learn the applicable concealed carry laws, proper sight alignment, and what not to do.
Handguns do not need to be "registered." The only tracing in LA is when someone buys it from a FFL dealer they have to do a background check. After that you can buy or sell or trade without every filing out any paper work. Therefore, it could be a family member's handgun.

LSU Babe,
Texas Tiger pretty much already answered your questions, but I'll also add a link for you. The LA State Police oversee Concelaed Carry Permits in LA. The following link is from their website. It shows the names of instructors (and their contact info) who are registered w/ the LSP to teach LA CC classes. The list is broken down by different regions, incl Lafayette. All have ph #'s and most have emails.

Good luck w/ your journey! :-)

Thanks!
Very Much appreciated...
And I didn't know that guns weren't registered. I thought thats what the whole background check & paper work was for when I purchased my Taurus 9mm Slim a few years ago.
I guess ya learn something new everyday.

Carry a Ruger LCP and/or a Kimber 1911. Boot holster for LCP when carrying it and not sure of the brand on the holster for the Kimber.

Kahr CM9 IWB in a Tagua holster from Jim's. Super comfortable and concealable since it's so thin.
Loaded up 7+1 with Speer Gold Dot 124gr +P's.
Nice setup!
Most people think you need as much ammo you can get in the biggest gun possible for CC. You can conceal anything in the right holster, but the thinner the gun, the better. This why I usually don't suggest people carry Glocks, because they are wide as frick. But a lot of people do it with success.
The general rule of thumb is that the more comfortable the gun is, the more you will carry it. A gun left at home is worthless.
