killing palmetto bushes

and a ginormous (over 6ft tall, about 2 ft wide) saw grass bush.
I'm at my wits end here, this lady that owned my house before was an idiot and had roughly 8 (total) palmetto bushes put in the landscaping. 4 had already died when I moved in, but the other 4 I have no clue how to get rid of. I've tried every sort of weed killer and even diesel, and got 0 results.
Anybody have experience getting rid of these weeds and can give me some super secret squirrel tips?

You're fricked.
The only thing we've found successful on the evil palmetto is double fisting cane knives.

You gotta dig them up and remove them.

Diesel worked for me. Pour a cup full at the base
Put your orange vest on & walk around. They'll think your deer hunting.

Yeah thats what I did with the others, but they were dead already, and still a bitch so I'm assuming the living ones will be worse.

I'd use fire on them, but they are only about 18" from my house.
The saw grass bush is a different story, its up against the fence and at this point I'm willing to sacrifice a few fences board to get rid of it.

fire won't work on palmetto anyways, it will just come back up

They burn really well when they're dead though
Tie a strap around them and try to pull them up with a log skitter?

+1 on the diesel.
Pour a little bit on the base and within a week to ten days you can pull all of the fronds up out from the heart.

cut them off at the ground with a chainsaw. Dig a hole around the base 1'-2' deep and douse with diesel. Pour more diesel on them every couple of days. After about 2 weeks, pour the diesel and set them on fire.
I had some huge ones that were growing at the base of some large oak trees and this is the method I used. Did no harm to the oaks.

I'll give the diesel another go round and hopefully it works this time.

You have to dig up the entire Bush. Every single bit of it. I had them in Slidell and couldn't figure out why they would grow back after cutting them up. Their root system is odd shaped and sometimes long. Don't even leave a baby root

Gasoline maybe instead of diesel?

Pour natty light over the bushes.

I made a concoction that killed 90% of mine in one day.
Real trick is to apply it to the exposed stalk about 3-6" below the dirt line. Large cane knife will do.
Big swing, don't remove the blade. Pry it up and spray inside that tender white stalk.
Knock down the rest and watch it die.
(look over shoulder for DEQ)
