I'm hoping Romeo plays for the US. Because, you know, that would be awesome, and the US needs someone for the average public to care about after Donovan is done. Even though he's ten, I'm sure we can fast track him to a cap in the next 5 years.

Rough loss today. Few thoughts:
1. Gervinho looks like the Carmello Anthony of this Arsenal team. He stops the ball and flow of the game, is a ball hog, has terrible movement off the ball, and doesn't play a lick of defense. I know he scored today, but if he wasn't at point blank range that would have sailed worse than his shots at Man City.
2. Ramsey looked like a new player in the first half and then last year's player in the second half.
3. Wenger made the right call with Kosc and Verma as the CBs, but it backfired. Had to put speedier guys out there to match the quick play of Chelsea, but Kosc just had a poor outing, even if he was unlucky at times.
4. Ox and Poldi were absolutely invisible the entire game.
5. Think the fullbacks are getting better and better with every game. Even their crossing is beginning to improve. Pleasantly surprised with their progression.
6. Arteta is continuing to make the Song departure look like the absolute best of business. That almost hurts me to say, as Song was probably my favorite player the last few years. Arteta makes strong tackles without the stupid fouls, is better on the ball, has formed a great partnership wit Cazorla, and just adds a sense of composure to the entire team from his distribution and calm play.
7. Thought it was an overall subpar outing, and Chelsea deserved the win, but also thought we created enough chances to win. Surprisingly encouraged. Played one of the best teams in the league, and even though we were playing poorly, could have pulled off the win. Think we will find ways to win those games as the season continues. A bump in the road, but we will be fine. If we can get Giroud going at all, we can still challenge for trophies this season.

I think Poldi was better than you give him credit for. I was not impressed with Santi or Ox today. Our best player on the field, IMO, was Gibbs.

shite, just got back from my match and saw we lost. I've got it on the dvr, is it a tough watch? From the sounds of the comments Chelsea definitely put in the better performance?

Arteta keeps convincing me hes our best player. I felt Ramsey had a rough outing as did kosc. Im not comfortable with manone at all. Yet they stayed in the game and i thought the podolski header and the giroud chance could have put us level.
Oh and frick I wish we would break the bank for some players. Like chelsea.

Weird game. Chelsea largely controlled play but we by far had the best scoring chances. Besides Torres being through on goal, they didn't have a great open play chance. I think we probably deserved a draw, but they were clinical.
Kos was dominated on the first goal and slipped to set up Torres' chance, but besides that, I don't think he had a bad game. People saying Per should have started are exercising some seriously flawed hindsight.
The Diaby injury definitely hurt us early. Gervinho's goal was magnificent and he did well a few other times, but he missed a huge opportunity to play in Cazorla and Ramsey on a counter in the second half simply because he didn't look up.
This loss isn't the end of the world, but it does show we still have a ways to go to be title contenders this year. If we can continue to improve maybe we can make things interesting late.

Mannone keeps showing me why he started the season as the 3rd string keeper. He has a complete inability to deal with crosses or set pieces, he cannot distribute the ball to save his life, he has poor positioning, and he is an average shot stopper. I'm never comfortable with anything going on frame when Mannone is back there.

I honestly think that Poldi's issue has more to do with Gervinho playing a completely different game than everyone else than anything Poldi does. Poldi's game completely revolves around quick play, great movement, and decisive finishing. Cazorla is the exact same way. Unfortunately, Gervinho is awful with quick play, has below-average movement, and I don't think I need to say too much on decisive finishing. Today we would start great movement and have counters, but then Gervinho would hold up the ball and allow Chelsea to get back and organized. He did the exact same thing against Man City last week.

How many fixtures are we going to have to look forward to seeing Gervinho up top and Ramsey out wide?
I haven't seen this match yet, but generally speaking the two of them at those positions for the most part don't provide me with confidence on attack. Sure they have bright spots at times, but I guess you could just say I am not a fan of the Ramsey out wide, or Gervinho up top experiment. They either aren't aggressive enough in front of goal or technical enough to produce something on the majority of their chances for my tastes.

Diaby out a minimum of three weeks with a thigh injury.
IT BEGINS
(I actually don't hate the lineup we started with. Plays more like a 442 anyways.)

I don't mind Ramsey as the "wide" player when we play teams with great midfields. He plays inside for the most part. Last week he was instrumental in controlling the midfield and continuing link-up play. He also allowed Cazorla to roam without a shadow defender because both were looking dangerous. It looked to be more of the same in the first half today, but he faded in the second half. Couldn't agree with you more on Gervinho. I almost think Walcott as the striker could give us everything Gervinho gives, but he wouldn't stop play by dribbling into defenders. Not the biggest fan of Walcott, but he can certainly provide more than Gervinho.

Gervinho had an excellent goal, set up a very good chance for Cazorla, played a couple other nice balls into the box, won a few corners...I probably would have kept Poldi on, but Gervinho didn't have a bad game by any stretch.

I'll have to agree to disagree with you on that one. The goal from Gerv looked more like an accident than anything else. One yard further back and that sails over the goal just like every touch he had the previous week. He set up a half chance for Cazorla at the edge of the box, but how much good build up play did he completely waste by stopping the ball or giving it away needlessly? He's certainly a quality player, but his play depreciates the quality and influence that Poldi, Cazorla, Arteta, and Ox can have on the pitch.

There isn't much you can tell me to justify Gervinho being on the pitch today. I thought he was awful for the majority of the match. Like LSUGooner is saying, he takes away from the build-up.
