I'd call his bluff on the QO before I S&T him to a team he wants to go to.
I don't think there's any way he signs the QO with his injury history unless he REALLY hates it here.
All this is is he wants a team to offer him the max. The more teams involved the more likely that is. Then we match. The end.

Let's say Houston offers Gordon the max and Gordon's agent informs the Hornets that he intends to sign with Houston and to sign-and-trade him. Do you think Demps and company tell him tough titties and match the offer, or do you think they oblige to his wishes and sign-and-trade him to Houston for Martin, Lamb, White, etc.?

Monty and Dell have been pretty adamant that they think Gordon is what they are building their team around. Houston would have to offer something pretty goddamn amazing, and getting 3 rookies back isn't what I consider amazing.
He can take his chances with the QO (which he won't) or he can stick with us for a few years getting paid the max, which he will.

While I love the phrasing, I would not discount the possibility of a sign-and-trade, if not just after the moratorium, then during the first year. It may not be the vanilla deal Houston offered, but I would not discount it.

I'm not discounting a sign and trade. I'm discounting Houston, for sure. They don't have what we would want in exchange for EG.

Houston suck for trying to offer the max to run up his contract number!
A week ago, I'd say no way because we weren't going to let the main asset from our CP3 trade get away. HOWEVER...with the drafting of Rivers and our lack of 3s, I could see a sign and trade for Jones and Lamb and a future pick or White or something like that.
But that's only if Gordon demands a trade. At least that way we would get some good assets for him instead of him sulking this year and letting him walk next year.

Yep, if we wanted this crap, we would have traded him for their picks during the draft and gotten exactly who we wanted. Throwing an expiring Martin into the mix does nothing for me.

Any chance of a 3rd team becoming involved to get us a veteran we'd want in addition to 2 rookies like Lamb and Montejunias?
Houston still has Lowry, who will be shipped out somewhere, so he may be useful as far as getting us someone we want.

I would think that if Gordon informs the Hornets he truly isn't happy here and wishes to play in Houston or whoever offers him the big money, how can the Hornets not be obliged to sign-and-trade him to his preferred city? I understand the Hornets by no means have to do this, but one would think they wouldn't "keep him hostage" here against his wishes.

The Hornets are obliged to match the offer if it is financially palatable to them.
If Gordon doesn't like it and wants to go to Houston, he can force a deal by threatening to sign his qualifying offer and walking next year in free agency.

Is there even a guarantee Montejunias is coming to the NBA this year or next year or ever?
And people say that Gordon devalues Rivers, but he or Lamb would devalue the other. Seriously, we'd be counting on the totally unproven trio of Rivers/Lamb/Henry to play the 2. That does not appeal to me.

I'd look for that deal to evolve before it's accepted, if ever. Yes.
Every deal informs the market. We know the floor. If that deal is the ceiling, then we know something. Since it came so early, it's likely not the ceiling, so things should improve.
It's a good starting point. Way better than the CP trade with the Clippers started, for instance, in terms of appropriate value, not total compensation.

David Stern proved during the CP3 saga who has the leverage under the new CBA. The players are being held to their contracts, not held hostage.
