Picked up one of these two weeks ago solid rig only complaint is the rudder system sometimes it gets stuck in one position,
(Didn’t matter which side she used)
I had to reach under her boat and center it more than once
Any issues or fixes you heard of?
And those are cute lil props DC

In the market for 2 kayaks so went to the demo Saturday that Massey's put on. Just wanted some feedback - really liked the Hobie Mirage Pro Angler 12ft and the Hobie outback 12 ft. any pros and cons I should know about? 1st time Kayak buyer. Will be using it mostly in Cocodrie.

I have both, but my Outback isn't the new design. The PA is heavy and doesn't track as straight, but it's great to fish out of. Plenty of space with a great seat. The OB is lighter, quicker, and more maneuverable.

Good to hear b/c that is exactly what I thought when taking them both out.

My wife says it isn't about how big your prop is, its how fast you pedal it.
And BK, I would also demo some prop driven kayaks to like a Wilderness Systems or an Old Town. There is a big difference in feel for each type of pedal drive. If you are fishing shallow, the mirage drive might be your best bet. IF you are staying in 12"+ of water instant reverse is a nice feature that prop driven kayaks have.

You’d be good with either. The outback will be faster and lighter, but the PA will be more comfortable. Once you’re on the water, the weight doesn’t matter. I’d advise going with the 14ft PA over the 12ft PA if you go that route. It tracks better and doesn’t dig in when you turn like the 12 does.

I have a camp in Cocodrie. Plan on putting it in the bayou in back the camp and fish the canal, flood wall area, and marsh. Also, if it makes sense, I may haul it down to COCO Marina and fish back in that area.

It can get pretty shallow in Cocodrie. That's an advantage the Hobie has, but I do recommend demoing as many as you can. My 2nd choice would probably be the Old Town over the others, but local support may be an issue. And you'll have to find someone who owns one to demo more than likely.

I have a PA14. Its comfortable and handles choppy water well. It sits higher than the Outback so it’ll catch more wind and turn response time can be crap compared to the Outback. My buddy has the new Outback and the layout is nice, turns well, and its noticeably faster than my PA. Just not as much cockpit room and when we get out in some choppy water he ends up getting wet from water coming over the bow. Can’t really go wrong with either though

Is the PA 14 easy to handle as far as loading and unloading it?
Posted on 4/25/19 at 8:04 am to BK Kush
Depends on who you talk to bc I’ve heard people complain about the PA weight when loading it up. But its not difficult at all for me loading into my truck. I have a bed extender and just lift the back end of the PA onto the bed extender then go grab the bow end and slide it in. I built a storage cart for the garage out of 2x4’s with PVC runners and made it tailgate height, so the yak slides on and off the PVC runners on the cart easily when loading/unloading at home.

I'm taking my kayak for the first time solo to the Manchac/Ruddock area. Tell me what I'm forgetting for safety/necessity/comfort since this will be my first time without a buddy.

A life jacket, cell phone, sunscreen and enough water can get you through just about anything. Maybe want to bring some Amber Romance to deal with the gnats if they are thick down there.

bug spray, water, life jacket
