Zeppelin or Pink Floyd?

I am sure this has already been done and will be done again, but it's worth asking IMO because people can change and what might be better in June may change in December. Clearly, these are just about everyone's favorite two or two of their five Brit bands who derived success in early 1970's - today.
Right now, I give a slight advantage to LZ. Floyd, however, would be the band that I would maybe rather see live. I am talking prime of career live and not "reunion show" live. As far as number of quality songs and songs that you can feel good hearing from them, LZ is far and away better. When it comes to songs that are just from a realm of music that no one else has duplicated, Floyd easily wins.
It's a tougher question than you think if you weigh everything precisely. Led Zep "The Song Remains the Same" dvd is not THAT good and is in fact, a bit ghey. Meanwhile, is there anything musically you have seen better than "Live at Pompeii"? "One of These Days" after eating peyote years ago was impossible to describe. The whole dvd was like that. Yes, I have watched sober and have not eaten peyote in 12 years and it's still good. Of course, THE WALL (film) was very good as well.
Album for album, both's top 2-3 are pretty even. I mean put up Led Zep II and Houses of the Holy versus Darkside and The Wall and ????
Ok, what ya got? Like I said, just due to numerous amount of quality songs, give me Zep. Floyd has a top 10 that rivals my LZ top 10; when it comes to whole catalogue, Floyd also has more songs I don't like.

I'd go with Pink Floyd. I'm more likely to sit down and listen to Floyd and do shite for some reason. Not to mention, no CSB intended, but I had some of the best sex of my life to Dark Side. Fond memories win out.

Floyd.
Their psychedelic thirty minute excursions put them over the top.
Whenever Led Zeppelin stretched songs out 20+ minutes it often sounded like crap with Jimmy Page trying to use that stupid violin thing on his guitar.

I agree. When I was in high school I would've probably said Zeppelin but as I've gotten older I prefer Floyd and hardly ever listen to Zeppelin

Zeppelin's one of those band that you'll always listen to a song or two, but when I hear a track from Pink Floyd, I have to go listen to more. Also, people forget how cool musically it really is. There's really so much shite going on that it's impressive.

I think another crowd will show up and defend Zep, because they did a lot of that sort of "lot going on here" after Symbols. "In Through the Out" was very out there and original.
Make no mistake...I LOVE both. I just think also that Zep had better musicians.

Interestingly enough, being an avid music lover, I dont own anything by either one of the bands...
Just could never get into them full board, of course I like songs...
I'd go with Pink Floyd, because of the songs I like, theirs resonate more.

They're both rock bands and they both were "pioneers". Aside from that, they're not too similar.
I'm going with Zeppelin because I like damn near everything they did. They had a weird ability to turn chaos and noise into music. Bonham was alllllll over the place but it sounded amazing. JPJ shits funk.
I enjoy PF a good deal too though. Both were great.

Heroin???
Love them both.
Gun to my head? Zepplin.
However "Comfortably Numb" is like Shawshank Redemption or Goodfellas of radio. If I hear it I am going to stop what I am doing and listening to my wife or anyone else, and listen to the song.

Zeppelin is the right answer
the only reason people will say Floyd is because they've heard every single song by LZ about 1,000+ times each and don't listen to them anymore.
Floyd still has songs that people never heard.

Other than they're British and hit their heyday in the 70's, I'm not sure why they would be compared.

Zeppelin. Love Pink Floyd but holy shite to see the raw energy and power of Zeppelin ends the argument for me. DSOTM is a great headphone album but Led Zeppelin II is a buzzsaw. John Bonham alone is worth more to me than Gilmour and Waters.

Both are my favorite Pandora stations. I've had Pink Floyd channel on, and its Freebird right now, and before that Guitar Gently Weeps, Money, Imagine, Rising Sun, and Paint it Black.

Zeppelin but not taking away anything from PF

comparing the 2 bands is not fair. they are night and day. sure they came from the same time period, but both bands have completely different sounds. buuuuut if i had to pick one, floyd till i die

Well what were you going to say? "My username is a pink floyd reference but I will go with Zep." Just and observation is all. Pink Floyd are an absolute amazing band and these kind of threads don't do either justice.
