2 calls at second base today....

In the 3rd inning Janowski slid hard into Austin Nola breaking up the double play. Jamkowski didn't slide out of the baseline, but if you look at the replay, he cleary raised his right spike against Nola's leg, which easily could have been the basis to award LSU the double play. Stony Brook scored 2 runs that inning.
No call by umpire Tony Norris.
Yet when Snikeris overslid second, Norris decided to call him out. Rally killer. He could have easily ruled him safe.
In my opinion, if Norris was hesitant to call the automatic double play on Jankowski's illegal slide, he also didn't have call Snikeris out.
Referees don't call holding on every play in the Super Bowl and don't call every touch foul in the NBA.
Let the play on the field determine the outcome, especially leading up to the CWS.
If no double play, then no overslide either.

Blue made two correct calls and you are mad?

The raising of the leg was questionable bit the other call was correct. Had Nola thrown to first it may have induced the call but not throwing it didn't help IMO.

Gausman should've put in between Jankowskis numbers the inning after he spiked Nola

I does not matter if Nola threw the ball. All LSU games have three man crews. This one had four. Any double play turns at second the umpires sole responsibility is to stay with slide. They called a similar DP in Clemson/uSC game last week. IMO it should have been called because leg contacted fielder outside slide box in rule book and was intentional. There is a reason why the ump started on third yesterday. He is the weakest link. I thought plate up did not distinquish ball four at proper time which may have aided slide. Bottom line hit the frickin ball!

looked like his toe was touching 2nd base to me. should have been safe.

I agree with hit the damn ball bit on the slide LSU fans would have lost it if they called us for that.

Paid by the game? Employed by the same organization that sold the broadcast rights? Ever wonder why there are so many Games 7s?

But he was out, why doesn't anyone get that?

The team that methodically shut down SBU and manufactured a run easy as pie, was completely different than the team that came out to play game 2.
I hope the first version of LSU is the one that comes out tomorrow.

Why are you still discussing this? LSU didn't hit the ball. Period. It's tough to win any game only getting 3 hits.

The field umpire has an obligation to inform the baserunner of the situation. Very easily could have thrown his hands up and yelled "no play, ball four" and prevented the situation from even occurring. I've seen it happen in high school, college, and mlb where the umpire has done that. Very poorly handled chain of events.

Yet another example of football people that know nothing about baseball. Probably one of the ones in the in game threads bitching that we dont score ten runs an inning. Yes, I do think our hitters have not developed very much over the course of the season. But the pitcher from SB pitched a hell of a game today, and we shouldn't take that away from them. My problem is that most of the hitters didnt really work the count, especially towards the end of the game when the pitch count was getting up.
This is not like football vs "rent-a-win state."

My bad. I should only say "LSU didn't hit the ball."
I must have missed the rule limiting discussion on a sports forum.
I enjoy baseball and enjoy the nuances of the game and will freely comment as a I please. My point was the game would be better if officials didn't interject themselves into games unnecessarily.
Had LSU won, we would be discussing travel plans to Omaha. But since we didn't win, a review of some of today's interesting plays should be no skin off your nose.

Dude the 2nd base umpire was doing his job. The ball was thrown and no OBVIOUS call was made by homeplate umpire. Why are our fans such bitches when it comes to ump/refs calls? That out is all on Snickeris. End of story.

I get that but let me ask this and we can end this discussion.
How many times have you seen anyone SLIDE THROUGH 2nd base on a steal attempt?

Do we have a YouTube video of this yet?

All I have heard is a bunch of excuses from LSU fans when LSU just didn't played well enough to win this game and were very lucky to win game #1. I am happy they are still in this series at all. Stony Brook is a Regional #4 seed if I am correct. LSU is a National #7 seed. They should not be out playing LSU like this. That said LSU can turn it all around tomorrow.

I think MOST PEOPLE are relying on the fact that his foot was on the base the entire time, including the brief time his hand was off.
Also, the ump never looked at his foot and was completely sold by the SB player that his hand was off base.
