Umps never emphatically call ball four. It's always a more passive call.

actually his hand came off the bag after the tag and then he put his foot on bag and got tagged again. he should have been called safe.
correct
everyone should watch the replay and his foot the whole time

He skrewed up the call and they madr the claim to cover it up. The ump had no clue it was ball 4. He may have "been off the bag" but that was part of the umpire meeting to clear up what claim they were going to make. The ump was clueless and figured a way to make it seem like he was right.

Saw the replay. His toe was off the bag. He stretched his foot to get it back on and was tagged before he did. Weird play. Lucky for them. Unlucky for us. Right call.

if his foot did get back on the bag then he definately should be safe. I think he was called out because ump believed his foot was not touching the base..
my arguement is.. the fricking fielder should not be affecting my slide on a free base.

He was tagged when his foot (and hand) were not touching the base.

He was out. Foot was clearly off the bag. It sucks. Why are we stealing is the question. We don't do it well. The ground is wet and Cantwell can sling it.

i thought he was tagged when his hand was on the bag then the tag came off and then the tag was applied again, which was when Snikiris foot was close to the bag.. MY point was that the tag wasnton Snikiris the whole time.

Message Posted by wranda2 A free base is a free base is a free base. I should be able to slide, jump on, cartwheel to, or do the dougie to 2nd base without some guedo or jew getting in the way.
And he did get on....,then came off.
Posted on 6/9/12 at 4:40 pm to wranda2
His hand slid over the bag, his toe was then touching, and then for the tiniest of moments the toe came off, the SB 2B saw that and tagged him, then the toe touched the bag again. For the one moment he was not touching the bag he was tagged.

Point being though, if the fielder's foot isn't there, he likely catches the base with his foot instead of sliding it off to the side. The fielder obstructed his path to the base, no matter how slight it was.

read my post again, something got in his way of a FREE base. he would not have came off had the fielders foot/leg not been in the way. he has no right to be blockinig a FREE base.

yeah, i wasnt saying that he wasnt tagged when his pinky toe was barely on or off the base, rather that the tag wasnt applied at all times..i had a reason for that post but i have since forgotten. i just like arguing.

I think thats what the rule SHOULD state for future similar situations. its just fair.

Don't think any of this is against the rules. But feel free to submit it to rules committee.

It may be the correct call but it was a chicken
---- call. Had the runner known that ball four
had been called he could have stopped running
and walked, at his leisure, to second base with
no problem. But simply because he didn't know
and was trying to steal, he slid past the bag
and was called out was pure BS by the ump.

Ball 4 is not a "no play". You have to stay on the bag. He didn't. It was weird. It was unfortunate. But it was correct.
