If you regear it will put you back near stock powerband so your MPG will not suffer so much. With going to 35's, you might go from 20 mpg down to maybe 12. regearing will get that back.

I have not calculated the mpg yet but the display says between 16-17. 4:10 gears, 6 speed, 255/75/17 tires
MPG will get worse and with high gas prices, thank God it is not my daily driver.

I had a used 97 Cherokee sport 4x4 4.0 for a few years. Spent zero dollars on repairs. Totalled it in 04. Replaced w 2000 version --about the last year of the box--ive had it since 2004 with only a single brake job and I replaced the alternator, plugs and belt. Runs like a champ on and off road and is pretty fast.

I have a 1999. It was never offroad before I got it. I had added a 3 1/2" lift kit with some 31's on it. Only problem I had was that the fuel pump filter pluged up in the pass 5 years I own it.

If you have a half day, socket set, jack, jack stands. Do it yourself it's not that hard. If you have air tools it's even easier. I have got it down to about 1.5 - 2 hrs. If you plan on wheeling it, I highly recommend doing it on your own. That way you know how to fix.

Would love to do it my self. The plan is to do it myself. The help I had may not be avail to help. I am trying to do this myself, but want a back up plan if I can not get to it.

I have a 2001 TJ that I have put a few mods on. I've done all the work myself in my garage.
JKS ACOS

I swapped out the original axles that came with the Jeep. I now have a Dana 44 on rear and Dana 30 up front. I didn't want the 30 but it was thrown in the deal so I took it. I pulled the 27 spline shafts out my old Dana 30 to have backups on the trail. I have my lift set at 6" up front and 5" on the rear.
I will be swapping out my 33 inch tires tomorrow for some new 35 inch Mickey Thompson Baja MTZs sitting in my garage. I will be installing an Edge Trail Jammer kit on Wednesday.
I have most of the materials to build a rear bumper/tire carrier/jack carrier. I plan to have the bumper double as an air tank so I can run an impact on the trail.
It does pretty good on the trail as is but I plan to regear to 4.88 and install some Auburn lockers soon.

Definitely do it yourself. I can completely disconnect my axles now and have everything adjusted and bolted back in in about 2 1/2 to 3 hours. That's working by myself.
Keep your 15mm sockets and wrenches handy because you will use it a lot.

coils have been ordered along with Bilstein shocks. July I will have the wheels and by Aug the tires. Ready for hunting season.

Which Bilstein shocks?
I'm running the Rancho RS9000XL adjustable shocks and I love those things.
I keep my front set to 7 and rear at 5 for highway running. Everything gets dialed to 1 on the trails.

I had to re-route my steering links last week when I cranked my lift up to the max up front. I wanted as much travel as possible to accommodate my new tires. My steering links were jamming against my sway bar mount on the axle when I tried turning right.
