The Brooklyn Nets would have won it...or at least got top 3.

Stern doesn't really hide his preference that big market teams succeed.

Imo fwiw.

Right, because the Hornets being controlled by the NBA still without a front runner for a buyer wouldn't benefit at all by getting the 1st pick and drafting a franchise changing player like Davis.

We will see how many people jump in line now to buy that team. I bet it will be a long list.

As for anyone that says that they "saw" it and it wasn't rigged. I've also seen David Blaine levitate. So since I've seen it, that shite is real too.

** I did not realize that they had been bought already...my bad. But the point still remains, and it could have very well been included in the deal.

This is the main point behind it being rigged. I think a lot of people believe the NBA could have promised Benson the #1 pick in exchange for buying the team.

There is just absolutely no reason they couldnt have done this live and in front of everyone. The NBA gets HAMMERED for bias refs/major market favorability and then they do something like this that stinks...

again...not sure why the overwhelming vitriol from the media. The hornets were basically tied with cleveland for the 3rd highest probability to win. The number 1 slotted team doesn't actually win that often (hasn't happened since Dwight Howard). Its not like we're talking about the hornets jumping up from the 8 or 10 spot.

Part of me WANTS this to be true.

I would love to see how the NBA handles this after the PR nightmare of Refgate and the lockout

If Hornets win rigged for Benson to buy the team

If Bobcats win rigged to help MJ

If Nets win rigged to help move to Brooklyn

If Cleveland win rigged because Lebron left them.

If Cleveland wins, it's pay back pt. II for Lebron leaving

If Sacramento wins, it's incentive for the Maloofs to stay in the Sactown.

No matter who would have gotten the #1 pick, it would have been dubbed "rigged"

Or Cleveland and the #1 after The Decision...Or Chicago winning with hometown boy Derrick Rose poised to go #1...Or Cleveland winning with hometown boy Lebron poised to go #1...Or Ewing to the Knicks in 85...

Or Duncan to Boston... oh wait

With todays media, it would be damn near impossible to keep that secret hidden

Bobcats 25%
Washington 19.9%
Cleveland 13.8%
Hornets 13.7%

If the picks had went in this order, then no one could have said it was rigged. When the team with worst odds out of the top 4 teams wins it, then you can say it is rigged.

rigged: Manage or conduct (something) fraudulently so as to produce an advantageous result.

Which is exactly why they should have done this live. You take away the entire idea of it being rigged away. I cant fathom why they haven't already done this.
