Peak of his career? Did I read that right?
Chelsea, and I mean the entire organization.... Ownership, Coaches, Fans, Teammates.... have treated this guy 1,000x better than he deserved. Chelsea FC have been amazing to Fernando Torres and he hasn't even come close to returning the favor.
Dude needs to know his role and shut his mouth or the amazing support he has enjoyed while wallowing in mediocrity will be dropped with the quickness.
I still like to pull for the guy but he needs to get his mind right.

+1
I want to pull for him, too, but I haven't liked his attitude on the field this year. As far as him being unhappy at his role on Chelsea, I'm sure he would have played a bigger role if he had been better.

The dude gets paid to play. However, he doesn't play. I don't blame him for wanting to have first team play. I think him and Drogba would be a good pairing but they haven't had the opportunity to play much together.
Drogba was coming off of Malaria. AVB really fricked up the locker room.
Well, it is the peak of his career in terms of playing age. He is 28.
I mean he hasn't really bashed Chelsea. All he said is he wants playing time, he isn't happy because he isn't getting it, and he wants assurance that he will get PT.
What competitor wouldn't bitch about not getting playing time ?

TO be fair to Chelsea, he was in shitastic form until about a month ago.

Such a shame. It's a combination of a lot of different things, but it's obvious Chelsea isn't the right fit.

True that. His form has been awful. The entire Chelsea team was awful with AVB as manager though. I don't know if you can fault just Torres for that.
The form of the entire Chelsea team has changed since then.
I think the best thing for Torres to do is, is to talk to Chelsea. Figure out their plans. Then go from there. I wouldn't think Chelsea is going to use him as a bench player. It isn't what they brought him to do.
If they re-sign Drogba. It'd be interesting. I think Torres will do a lot better next year with some stability in the club.
Plus, who knows who they are going to hire as Manager.

To be fair to Nando, you don't fix a period of bad form by sitting on the bench. It's insane that Chelsea would allow Torres to sit on the bench, considering he is a rapidly deteriorating investment. This move by Torres shouldn't worry Chelsea. In fact, they should only be perturbed if he didn't complain about playing time, since he was one of the most expensive transfers of all time.

This is stupid.
The guy got hours and hours of chances earlier in the season and didn't do a goddamned thing with the chances he was given.
Later in the season when Chelsea is playing in cup finals and trying to stay in the top 4 and Drogba is BEASTING the best defenses in the world, 'Nando decides to start playing a LITTLE bit better and he's pissed he's not starting over Drogba?
Sorry 'Nando. The club isn't just going to say frick it and piss away it's chances at silverware because you're now finally ready to live up to your potential.... maybe.
If he wants to play on a CL level team I think he needs to realize that he's not the caliber to be a number one striker on teams like that. And if he feels he is then he should PROVE it which he hasn't.

Nah, this is stupid. you seem to forget he has already proved his ability as a player.
Torres should be frustrated. He shouldn't error being put on the bench or pushed out on the wing.
The thing is crazy, with Roman, investments don't have to come good. He can afford to waste or misuse him. Their whole way of doing things is insane when it comes to money.

He hasnt been in form for 2 years now, though hes shown glimpses...
He was an obsession of RA's and he finally got his man. I get that he viewed LFC as a sinking ship, but not sure why he thought he'd ever step into the first team over Drogba at CFC.
I'd like to see him go to Juve or somewhere else and get back to his '09 form, when he was unplayable...

In a system that wasn't giving anyone chances. AVB was a really bad fit for the Chelsea team that they currently have. Once the system changed to something everyone was more comfortable with, everyone, including Torres, started playing better. I think his benching had more to do with the comfort that Lampard and other midfield players had with Drogba, and Drogba's ability to pressure opposing CB's physically, in a way that Torres doesn't do. Drogba suited the style of counter attacking football Chelsea adopted.

Drogba only finished with five goals on the season. They came at important times, though, which is a testament to Drogba's talent. They didn't really get the chance to work together either, which is a shame, as the combo of Drogba as a target striker and Torres as a 1 v 1 striker might have worked well. My point is that you don't spend £50 million on a striker for him to sit on the bench. That is the definition of stupidity.

That's insane to think that Roman can throw away £50 million pounds. Sums up a lot of what is wrong with the financial side of the game.

Chelsea is to blame here. Torres is incapable of playing alongside another top striker. He needs to be the focal point of the offense in order to succeed. At Chelsea he has never been given the opportunity to do this. Just because his skill set may complement Drogba's doesn't mean they will succeed together. When Torres is in the game, the Chelsea midfield still run the play through Drogba before Torres. He has become almost completely ineffective in a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 (alongside Drogba).
Torres will not succeed until Mata moves into a central position, much like Gerrard, Drogba is gone and Chelsea gets some real width.

'Nando can hop his happy arse back to Madrid. He whined about playing in England since he was with Pool. He got enough time to show what he "had" or didn't "have" to be specific. Signing him for that amount of money was asinine. I wanted to obviously have him become a superstar but he is past his prime. Blame injuries, blame the the tactics, blame whatever you want but Torres does not fit into Chelsea's current style of play regardless. I honestly don't believe he will ever regain the form he had at Liverpool regardless of what coach or system he is put into. He may do better with another team but Torres needs to fall in line or leave. I am happy either way.

Will you be happy if he leaves at a 35 million GBP loss?
Don't get me wrong I understand cutting your losses but he's on a contract no team in the world will match given has form over almost 2 years and throw in the fact that he's almost 30 and I think Chelsea would have trouble giving him away this summer

Not ideal. But if we can offload him to say Atletico for 15 mil and Falcao or something similar it would make it easier to swallow. I agree with you in that not many teams can risk an out of form Torres but at this point if he is honestly not happy in London then get rid of him. We don't need a Man City situation on our hands.

This is something all clubs need to adopt. If there is a player who doesn't want to be there, offload him as soon as you can. All it does is take away from the chemistry in the locker room and attract negative media attention. The player's form will suffer and the fans will begin to rumble. It really is a losing situation if the player isn't happy.

Atletico would be foolish for taking that move right now. Plus, his wages would break their bank.

I agree. When I read that I was almost thinking Atletico wouldn't even trade them straight up.

More like 15m + Torres for Falcao
