Ronnie James Dio died on May 16, 2010 after a battle with stomach cancer. The world lost one of the best heavy metal vocalists of all time. RIP

Ahhh now I know who he is. He is in young JB's poster in Pick of Destiny.

So much power in his voice. I've never seen or heard a clip where is voice cracked or sounded weak. Best singer Sabbath had.

Heaven & Hell (live)

He had a fantastic band with Vivian on guitar, Vinny Appice on drums, & Jimmy Bain on bass.
My favorite Dio tune.

Favorite album of his is probably Mob Rules with Sabbath, with Holy Diver close second along with all 3 of his Rainbow albums. Brilliant stuff there if you haven't heard it, treat yourself.

Wow, its been 2 years already?

Saw Dio Disciples last year. It's Dio's old solo band with Tim Owens from Judas Priest and Iced Earth and some other dude doing vocals. They were pretty good.

I just recently bought these, Amazon had the CD's for 4.99 and 5.99, so I got all 3. Great stuff. I first heard of Dio when Rainbow in the Dark came out. Outside of Man on the Silver Mountain I hadn't heard his Rainbow stuff before. Great stuff along with Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules, then the first 2 Dio albums.

The Heaven and Hell album from a few years ago was good too.

Absolutely. Jammed the hell out of going to Saints games the entire Super Bowl winning season. The man could sing.

Damn shame they couldn't use the Black Sabbath name for that album. I'll save my hatred for Sharon Osborne for another thread though.

And he organized Hear 'N Aid, metal's answer to We Are The World. Along with Vivian Campbell.

MTV played the hell out of that video back in the day. Great song, great guitar solos, especially Yngwie.

Do you remember Geoff Tate from Queensryche in that video? Hilarious. Had a pompadour or something.

Unless they buried the hatchet before he passed Ronnie fricking hated Vivian for going off and joining Def Leppard.

What a waste of talent. Vivian's playing on Holy Diver is amazing. Some of the coolest guitar solos ever. The Stand Up and Shout solo is amazing. I guess the money was too good to pass up joining Def Leppard, but what a let down. I mean, outside of Leppard's first two albums, do their guitarists even solo?

didn't happen.
vivian joined whitesnake after dio. viv has said he was fired.
no question that it was dio's band, but he wasn't paying vivian what he deserved. campbell's guitar work played huge a part in dio's early success.
after his departure, dio's material wasn't nearly as strong. craig goldy's style didn't fit dio. the music wasn't close to the caliber of what it was with vivian.
vivian probably has one of the easiest jobs a rock guitarist could have now. he's been getting paid well & seems content to be a rhythm guitarist.
he released a blues record not long ago. i didn't care for what i heard. prior to def leppard, he had project named riverdogs. great record.
