Who are your top five bass players? These do not have to be the best in the business, just your personal favorites?

All Time favorites for me are the guys who influenced my playing style. They are not necessarily guys from my favorite bands or the best players technically, but....they shaped the way I play:

1) John Paul Jones
2) Noel Redding
3) John Entwhistle
4) Flea (early work)
5) McCartney

And while I don't think this guy was great bassist, he had his moments - especially on their 80's material

I totally disagree. I'm not a huge Flea fan, but the guy is a master at his craft. He's also very prolific and does session work in lots of different styles.

Totally agree. His session work on Jagger's solo album 'Wandering Spirit' was top notch
