Bruce Springsteens Set at Jazzfest.........

Absolutely amazing yesterday, I'm glad he kept his liberal crap largely to himself, though he still had to dig in against GWB. Song selection was good, the few songs he threw in from the Seeger Sessions was nice, my only gripe is I would have rathered hear Glory Days/Hungry Heart over Dancing in the Dark. Other than that it was great, Born to Run and 10th Avenue Freezeout were perfect, as well as playing the obscure lines of When the Saints Go Marching In.

Yep--the greatest set I've ever seen him do, and I've seen him 6 times now. (I only caught a small part of the 2006 set). Perfect mix of his hits, New Orleans stuff (Saints done in a really cool, slow way; "Something You Got" done with Dr. John), and the Seeger Sessions stuff.
I was with several folks who've never seen him (and were also concerned he would take off with politics). I told them not to worry. They all left amazed.
Never have I seen a performer with such mastery of relating to a crowd. No performer sustains such energy over a set.
Best Jazz Fest set from a rocker I've ever seen.

Great Set. Proved why he's still the Boss. From the Hard driving rock n roll like Tenth Ave Freeze Out to the Haunting " when the Saints " it was a energized 2 3/4 hour performance

I found that unlike a lot of the other big acts that they have brought in recent years, he actually seemed like he cared about putting on a good show rather than speeding through his set list and running off stage.

Yep, good point. Played from 4:30 til 7:15...long for a Jazz Fest set but short for a Springsteen set. AND there are no breaks...each song ends with him counting off "1-2-3-4" for the next one.

The fricking Boss! Amazing set... And the 20 second or so, musical moment of silence for The Big Man, during Tenth Ave.... was worth the price of admission...
I don't mind his politics at all, but agree for the event at hand, only rock n roll was in order!

Why is it so difficult for somebody to resist bringing up something political - even with such an amazing performance as this one? Do you do this in every area of your life?
Just enjoy the freaking show and be glad you were there.

That's what I told my friends. After the show they were Bruce converts!

I took a shot of vodka every time he said the word "ghosts"

Im enjoying this thread. I didnt make it out there yesterday, but bruce has been getting a ton of hate on this board. Its nice to see some positive statements about him.

I think anybody seeing him for the first time yesterday is a believer from here on out. I certainly know I'm one of them!
Amazing to see somebody 63 years old exert that amount of energy - what a great show. And you could tell the guy was just having a blast.

did he know that boy that he pulled up on stage to sing with him or was that a random?

It looked random considering the kid could hardly sing through his excitement

No, it was random - apparently he's been doing at each show.
I loved how he went over to the two sign language interpreters and hugged/kissed them - that was great stuff.

Yep, and the crowd-surfing, and the dancing with the girls in the audience, and grabbing a beer from someone, popping it, swigging it, and dumping it over his head!

It's been a very long time since I've smiled so much at a show. I'm sure plenty of people feel the same way.

Bruce was so buddy-buddy with him! It was sweet.

That's how I got on the bandwagon. Never cared for him 'till I was drug to a show. I was floored.

Hope he adds a Milwaukee Miller Park date. I'll probably see him at one of the Wrigley Field dates either way. I've seen him 3 times. My buddy's seen him 25 times, first time in '78.
