...same people who got Johnny the job are apoplectic that Randy isn't coming, and there's pressure being applied.

Seven new BOS members coming in June. Can't have that change fast enough.

(I like the idea of Randy being on the staff. I like him better than the UNT assistants for sure. But the process which produces this is not one that's conducive to a first-class program.)

I would love Randy on staff, but no coach should be forced to hire certain assistants.

This is exactly how great athletic programs are built. Hire a puppet for cheap and let the money men, former coaches, etc. meddle in the affairs.

Woohooo for Louisiana politics making its way back into the LSU athletic dept.

I could only imagine Skip walking in to tell little Nicky who he needed to hire. I would have paid money to watch that unfold.

This is probably a dumb question, but is there a limit to the number of employees on staff for the basketball team? If so, what is the limit?

Look, my impression of Livingston is favorable - I remember him as a gutty smart player -- but I haven't kept up w/ him. A buddy of mine who follows this stuff much more closely than me, texted me recently, "People are already wondering why Jones has not given Randy Livingston -- who doesn't have a college degree, has not lived in LA for over a decade, has no college coaching experience, and left LSU in a huff during the middle of his soph yr. -- an asst position."

Is that accurate, if so .... why is he such a needed hire?

That sounds about right. And that's fricked up. I truly hope Johnny is wildly successful at LSU, but the way he was hired blows. I'm certainly willing to give him a chance, who knows, he might do well. But if he's going to be given a fair chance he needs to be allowed to hire his own assistants.
