I got to see The Band at Jazz Fest a few years ago with everyone in the lineup except Robbie ("The Turd") Robertson. It was almost surreal. Danko was so high he had trouble standing up but he sounded and played great. Levon was motherfricking magnificent.
Danko died in 99, thats a little more than a few years ago. Im jealous regardless. I knew something was up when robbie had kind words to say about levon at the hof ceremony a few days ago.

Nice. Only reason i remember it was 99 was i remember my roommate at the time telling me about it. Danko was my favorite member of the band.

I loved all of them, but Danko had that high pitched tenor that was unreal. Plus his bass playing was effortless.

Richard Manuel's suicide is so tragic. Every time I watch The Last Waltz and see him, it's all I can think about.

Saw him at Jazz Fest two years ago.
Ended with The Weight.
Drunkenly jammed to The Last Waltz for many a nights.
They don't make em like Levon no more.
It'll be a sad day indeed.

no doubt. sad to hear the news.
Levon wrote a note on the inside of This Wheel's on Fire for my Dad during a signing many years ago. It reads in part: "Throw up if you have to, but never throw down."

I unfortunately fell in love with his first solo album before reading This Wheel's On Fire, so I look at that fondly. Otherwise, not a fan of him as a person.
Really was just making fun of how gimpy he looked in the picture, though.

John Lennon died after. What's your point?

I am a HUGE Levon fan. I was totally depressed after hearing this last night. I had hoped to see him one more time at Jazz Fest but now that won't happen. I had the great pleasure to see Levon and John Prine at Red Rocks a couple years ago. One of the best shows I've ever seen. You could feel the love pouring out of the man while he played. Grinning from ear to ear having a ball. Man I'm gonna miss him.

Last week I was shocked and so saddened to hear that my old band mate, Levon, was in the final stages of his battle with cancer. It hit me really hard because I thought he had beaten throat cancer and had no idea that he was this ill. I spoke with his family and made arrangements to go and see him.
On Sunday I went to New York and visited him in the hospital. I sat with Levon for a good while, and thought of the incredible and beautiful times we had together. It was heartwarming to be greeted by his lovely daughter Amy, whom I have known since she was born. Amy’s mother, Libby Titus, and her husband, Donald Fagen, were so kind to help walk me through this terrible time of sadness. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife Sandy.
Levon is one of the most extraordinary talented people I’ve ever known and very much like an older brother to me. I am so grateful I got to see him one last time and will miss him and love him forever.

His book "This Wheels on Fire" is one of the best I've ever read.

Me too. The Band is in my top 3 of all time Levon is truly one of the greats.
Where you there when Dr. John came out and they did "Such a Night" from the Last Waltz? One of my favorite concert memories of all time.

marc cohn sings a song called "listening to levon" about parking with a girl when he was a kid, and not being able to hear a word she said when levon was on
