thoughts on Brey?
I like Brey. But he's alot like TJ in that he would be coming from a prestigeous academic school that has won consistently, but not big. I don't know if the powers that be want to go down that similar path with this hire

Get someone with ties to the area. Drew or Floyd. ALL IN

Just give a blank check to Bob Huggins and we all win.

How about Steve Wojciechowski of Duke, Emanuel Richardson of Arizona, Orlando Antigua of Kentucky?

NO! We need someone who will bring excitement NOW. I think a name like Floyd or Drew will bring some fans back as well as bring some recruits. We need guys with ties to the south in general. Wojo and Richardson are out.

please not Tim Floyd ..he's the white version of Trent Johnson ...stick in the mud

looking back its weird that brey didn't get a more serious look given his coach k/duke connections.

I see your point. Yes, I agree with you.

either Brey or Stan Van Gundy would bring back the mock turtleneck in a way we haven't seen since the early Saban days.

This is the mentality we need with this hire

Didn't we already serve time for this?
The only reason we served time is because Dale called the NCAA the gestapo.

Some thoughts from an outsider.
A good conference makes the season a lot more fun so I hope you all make a great hire. I really like the direction the SEC as a whole is going and South Carolina really made an excellent hire already this year.
If your AD has deep pockets one guy you might want to look at is Buzz Williams. He has a good thing going at Marquette but he is from Texas and actually has spent a lot of his career around the Texas/Louisiana territory. If the money is there maybe he would be interested in moving back.
As for Scott Drew. The man can recruit but he isn't much of a game day coach. I'm also not sure he wants to leave the safety of a private institution. A lot of people think he is a dirty and at a public school he would be subject to freedom of information requests.
If you all don't mind the risk of getting in trouble Kelvin Sampson's NCAA show cause ban is over. I don't know if I would trust him not to break a few rules but in my opinion he is a much better coach than Drew.
Another name that would be interesting is Matt Zimmerman. A long time Mike Anderson assistant. It would be fun to see how well two different schools in the same conference do with that style. Zimmerman has been an assistant under Anderson for 10 years now at UAB, Mizzou, and Arkansas. Out of all of Anderson's assistants Mizzou fan's were most sorry to see this guy leave. All of our boards "insiders" really liked him.
If you want a more traditional mid major type hire I'd look at Blaine Taylor from ODU, Scott Sutton from Oral Roberts, or Larry Eustachy from Southern Miss. Taylor has done an impressive job at Montana and at ODU. With rumors of VCU and Mason possibly leaving for the A10 he might feel this is a good time to move on. Sutton has done a good job at Oral Roberts, knows the area, and comes from a family of coaches. Eustachy had a drinking problem at Iowa State but has been sober for some time now and has managed to turn Southern Miss's hoops program around. If he can win at Iowa State and Southern Miss I'm sure he could win at LSU.
And last but not least if you want a really crazy out side the box kind of idea try this. ESPN annalist Doug Gottlieb was openly campaining for the K-State job and a number of there fans seemed willing to give him a shot. Gottlieb played at Notre Dame and Okie State and has seen a lot of different coaches and their practices with ESPN but has never actually coached him self. With an experienced staff it might be an interesting experiment. He certainly has plenty of name recognition in the college hoops world. Current Iowa State head coach Fred Hoiberg is doing an impressive job and he had never been a coach before either.
Anyway I love following college basketball and coaching changes are always fascinating to me. Good luck with the hire. I can't wait for both college football and basketball to start back up.

Was reading on a baylor board that Drew has told some LA high school coaches in the past that he wants the job.

Jones should not even sniff LSU's campus.
Shaka Smart is the only choice here.

Because Drew would light shite on fire here. He'd be amazing.
I don't think he could ever coach the team well enough for us to win it all, but we'd be damn good year in and year out.
