Your Prog Rock List

I have to say I am a big RUSH, Yes, Genesis, Porcupine Tree fan so I guess that means I like Prog Rock.
RUSH is my big fave though and I can't find other bands like them.....guess that's what makes them original. I've tried Spock's Beard, Dream Theater and while interesting, not my thing really.
Do you guys have any prog rock faves? I saw a thread on King Crimson and I haven't really ever heard any of their stuff.
I wish Porcupine Tree would put out more stuff.....I like Steven Wilson's Blackfield and solo work OK but not as much as Porcupine Tree. I'd get into Opeth but not into the grunting stuff.
Any prog rock guys here?

Define Progressive Rock...
I don't consider Rush or Genesis Progressive Rock, just rock.
Hell, saying that, I don't think I could even define Prog Rock

...a Prog Rock list without Jethro Tull?
Check out Ian's Thick As A Brick 2 release.

Earlier material of both bands is definitely Prog.
10 min. plus songs, complex time signatures, wide array of instruments, prominent keyboard play, overeaching themes and story elements making up whole albums...all of this sort of seperates Prog Rock from normal classic rock.

Phish
I'll try a little more Phish soon....they always get lumped in with the Dead as being jam band....not so much prog.

I think Rush did a better job of staying closer to their roots and evolved, though even they gave in more than I preferred.

Phish
Of the jam bands I think UM is more prog rock at their foundation.

I didn't invent the category.....there's a category of rock called progressive rock, you know that right?
And bands like Yes, Rush, Genesis are in that genre.
My fave is Rush, I pretty much listen to Rush only it's gotten so bad.

Would "Yes" be considered progressive?

Rush has a new album coming out in May that allegedly has some longer, concept type songs on it.
Rush's summit was 2112 to Signals. That included some 80 albums, Moving Pictures and Signals.....but one of my faves is Power Windows which is mostly synth.
Just because songs are shorter doesn't mean they sold out.
Genesis and Invisible Touch is pretty much a sell-out......to pop.

Absolutely. Especially any Yes before 90125, IMO. I like 90125 and Big Generator but definitely more pop-rock than Closer to the Edge for instance.
They had lineup changes though that help precipitate their change much like Genesis did.

Ugh dont remind me..they went from making the timeless Close to the Edge to this abomination years later

A Trick of the Tail is not a rock album.

Phish is probably the MOST diverse jam band in terms of the types of music on which they base their jams: jazz, funk, prog, even country rock....it's friggin' Trey!

And it's arguably the best Phil Collins Genesis album.
