Not much. Certainly not more than with Chris Jackson and Shaq, which was very little. Excitement, yes. Actual results, no

They went to the tourney every year, yes it was maddening that they didn't go further, but thats 20/20 hindsight.

Okay, sorry, but it did not take a bit of hindsight to see that a team with Chris Jackson and Shaq should have been able to crack the Sweet 16. It was readily apparent at the time. Hell, we got into the tourney without Shaq when CJ was a true Freshman. With him as a Soph and adding even a truly raw Shaq (not to mention the not inconsequential talent around them) a Sweet 16 loss would have been a disappointment.

Man, if CJ had just stayed one more year, though . . .

Solid post and I love the lots of common sense you bring to the thread.

It does however take hindsight to see that they did not make it genius. I know this is a hard concept for some of you to understand, but while the season was actually going on, we did not know they were not going to make it to the Sweet 16.

The 1 year they had CJ and Shaq they lost to Ga Tech who did get to the Final Four. sorry, but losing to a team with Dennis Scott, Kenny Anderson and Brian Oliver by 3 is not embarrasing. That was a top 10 team, I think they won the ACC tourney. Not sure why they were a 4 seed. Bad match up for LSU. 1990 LSU was still a good team. Compare that to the abortion of a basketball program we have now.

Nobody is comparing it to now. The poster said to imagine what could have been if Randy was healthy. I said, probably not much.

Maybe not much at LSU but potential NBA hall (so they say) This guy had court presence second to none. Also---remember during the Shaq CJ days,soph/jrs weren't going to the NBA in the numbers you see today--much tougher competition.

So to you going to the tourney is nothing then? The years Livingson was in college we had losing records. I don't think its unreasonable to think, if he had been healthy we would have at least been making the tourney like we did for 11-12 years in row before that. Its a really shame that people think its win it all or bust.

Ain't happening RL inquired for the second time and was told NO thanks for the second time, the arrogance of TJ is becoming ignorant. TJ does not want anyone on his staff who may be able to help him and take away from the fine job he has done. Brady tried to hire him and the degree was an issue.

I looked it up, Ga Tech finished #9 and won the ACC T, they arguablely should have been a 2 seed and they were a 4. That was a bad draw for LSU.

I think with a healthy Livingson we would have been a final four team or anything, but proably at least a tourney team.

Just going to the tournament is a very nice accomplishment. However, it doesn't rise to the level of "imagine what could have been...."

Now, imagine what could have been for Randy personally; that is a different story.

OK, why would Alleva not hire him? Do you have to have a degree to be a college coach? Seems like RL would be great for LSU he loves LSU, is liked in the LSU community and in NOLA, has contacts down there, seems like a guy that would great for LSU basketball

athletic directors usually do not hire assistants.

Serious question: Livingston's degree is from Phoenix Online. Does LSU, or other major universities, accept this as a legitimate degree for hiring purposes?

According to their website, the University of Phoenix is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission...which according to their website is one of 6 accrediting agencies in the US. They list University of Arkansas, for example, as one of their schools

Correct. Alleva has nothing to do with hiring assistants, other than to rubber stamp the choice. Bringing him into the thread is troll-ish.

Hard to understand why Trent wouldn't consider him, especially given Trent's Boise ties as well. Perhaps a personality conflict; who knows.

Perhaps an education conflict. You have to have a college degree to coach in college. Not sure if you only need a Bachelor's or if a Master's is required.

That just makes zero sense.

What's the real reason he doesn't want Livingston? You seem to have some kind of info. What's the reason?

Are you really not sure if an assistant coach needs a Master's degree or not?

Just looking at his assistant hires he obviously loads up on his guys. Randy being one of Dale's guys might work against him.
