Just a fish snake. There is just one snake in a water environment that you need to worry about. They are usually short, black(light belly), and looks like they've swallowed a small animal. They are mean SOB's, that don't play. Also, their belly scales are straight across, all the way to the tip of their tail, even past the cloaca(butt hole). The pictured snake looks like a harmless fish snake IMO.

Of course. And some of you wonder why I have the perspective I do.

Mung and I saw 5 or 6 snakes at Saline yesterday. All were reported as water moccasins by other fisherman.

Simplist way to resolve this: the pupils. All common Louisiana poisonous snakes have a vertical pupil like a cat's with the exception of a coral snake and some really rare snakes like the pine rattler. If the head of that snake is intact and the pupil is round like a human's, it's not a moccasin.

What?

These people get chills from just the videos of snakes. You want them to start pupil checking? ;-)

Venomous snakes have a USDA warning label on the underside of the belly. You have to flip them over and find the label.
