Why do people who never set foot in the doors of a Catholic Church actually observe Lent? Certainly not saying you're one of these but just asking in general.

I just have always found this strange. Most likely because I was not raised Catholic.

Like I said, I know several people who NEVER set foot in a church...not even on Easter or Christmas. Somehow they think not eating a cheeseburger on Ash Wednesday makes them a better person though.

None.

Lunch at La profecia was:

Chips and salsa
2 pupusas with only cheese
Side order of rice and one of refried beans

Dinner:

Maybe just cheerios and some toast

I attend a Baptist church that celebrates Advent and Lent oddly enough. The preaching that accompany the two periods is a better reasoned explantion than I ever heard from a priest in fact.

Ash Wed/Lent/Good Friday...all excuses for people to eat seafood.

It's a real sacrifice

Always wondered that myself. It is not like eating seafood is much of a sacrifice either

I had a ham and Swiss cheese sandwich for lunch. Oops??

I really could care less. Went to Catholic school from the time I was in Kindergarten-12th grade and seeing all the hypocrites get 'mad' when kids accidentally brought a turkey sandwich instead of PB&J on a Friday was dumb. Same people who I go to LSU with who get raving drunk every weekend but say "Oh I can't eat a burger on a Lenten Friday" apply here as well.

Like a proper Catholic between the age of 18 and 59, I will only have one meal today. Dinner will consist of shrimp.
