Other then experience I have no idea why.
It's alright IF you miss out on the NCAAs:
More games, more practices, etc.
However, if you had to pick one, you should always go with the NCAAT, regardless of how many games you may win in the NIT.

would you rather see LSU win just one in the NCAA's vs Miami the U, in a 12 vs 12 play in game before being shown the door by the 5 seed
or
would you rather see LSU win 3 in the NIT vs the runners up from the SWAC, Southland conference and some other mediocre BCS team before being curb stomped by the 3rd place MVC team?
That's a pretty dumb question, IMO.

NCAA or bust!
One win makes for a hell of a weekend.

Easy answer is NCAA but going deep in NIT would
probably would give LSU more exposure to recruits.

I would rather WIN the NIT, than lose in the firt game of the NCAA. Because it basically says you deserved to be in the NCAA, while losing right off the bat could say you don't deserve to be in the NCAA

winning the NIT means that you're the 65th best team in the nation ...that's all

No-brainer, one win in NCAA is better than any NIT accomplishment.

I give you guys credit. unanimous for NCAA and one win or better, including winning the play-in game AND the NC.
So be it.
So be it.

Winning a few in the NIT could also really help a young team develop chemistry and some kind of understanding with the coach.

Definitely!
And to the poster that says winning the nit
would make LSU the 65th best team you are
wrong. I can assure you winning the nit over
one win in NCAA would get LSU more respect
and a better chance to be ranked in top 40.
