They aren't gonna add anymore sports that don't make money IMO. Not only that, but then you have to build facilities.
I just don't see it happening. I don't think rugby would be added anyway.

Not going to happen. Especially w/o knowing what the NCAA and/or SEC will be doing as far as player compensations in the near future. LSU won't be adding to the payroll if thats the case.

I wish Lacrosse was varsity, then I'd go back to school and play, but this will never happen. Basketball can't even sell out, you think lacrosse or rugby will?

i don't understand why LSU (and other SEC schools for that matter) don't get men's soccer. the south is littered with amazing talent. most SEC schools have more women's sports than men's as it is (though I can't remember exactly how Title IX works), and most SEC schools have stadiums already for women's soccer. so no facilities would be needed. just funding.

I've heard somewhere that if Alleva could add a mens sport it would be soccer.

Had a friend that played Rugby for LSU. When did the program get the ax?

It's a club sport.
LSU currently plays in the Collegiate Premier Division (if they didn't drop out), and they are at a disadvantage when playing against the likes of BYU, Cal, Life College, and others.

so many people have no idea what the far reaching aspects that sports like lacrosse, rugby, & soccer can bring to LSU, on the whole.
YES-in the short & even long run direct financing is a loss. however, the new branches reaching out to avenues of the soccer, rugby, & lacrosse worlds transcend the direct athletic financing pro's/con's.
Univ. of Florida absolutely set the standard for the addition of women's lacrosse to their athletics department. Their AD put in place a plan to implement/fund the program by taking ALL of the revenue from 1 UF home non-conference football game & direct that to the women's lacrosse program. They were built a 1st class facility, brought in a tremendous coaching staff who in turn brought in a tremendous transfer & recruited roster. Inside of 2 season they HOSTED a post season game vs. Harvard. The Harvard coaching staff was so (for lack of a better word) intimiated by the UF facilities, they didn't even let their team go in to the VISTITORS locker room before/after the game because it was far nicer than their HOME facility.
Sports like soccer, rugby, & lacrosse have such an advantage in the SEC region. We can practically play OUTDOORS 10 months out of the year, which is a huge deal considering the "Lacrosse Hot Beds" can play outdoors 8 months, if they're lucky that year with the weather. EStablished Division 2 & 3 lacrosse programs in the south have such a distinct recruiting advantage luring traditionally northern sports athletes (in terms of lacrosse) from the cold regions to the south to play in gorgeous weather, facilities, & enjoy the southern lifestyle.
I know this personally as I have recruited in the last 2 years for just such a program.
Imagine the possibilites for sound athletics programs of the SEC: gorgeous campuses & facilities along with bringing in typically 4/5 years athletes who would absolutely increase the academic graduation rates to name just 2.
Because I am so close to the lacrosse side of this discussion, I could literally go on for 1000s of more words.

actually, LSU dropped out of the Premier Division (but so did Cal, ironically), and is now playing in the newly formed SEC Rugby Conference and currently ranked 7th in the nation in D1-AA.

I should have specified. It is actually pretty likely that women's lacrosse can be added sooner than you think. Florida and Vandy are already competing at the varsity level. Florida has had a program for three years, and has been a top 10 team for the last two, proving the SEC can compete right away.
Adding women's lacrosse (without men's) actually makes sense, because there are plenty of other D1 schools in the region with it (Furman, Jacksonville, Mercer, High Point, UNC, Duke, Florida, vandy to name a few), a real NCAA championship, and it increases the football budget.
I think the most likely sports to be added are Women's lacrosse and Men's soccer at this time.
