Mainieri hopes LSU fans will welcome Air Force's coach with ovation

(Air Force's head baseball coach) Kazlausky’s job for 20 years was being a C-17 transport aircraft pilot. He logged more than 3,000 flight hours and flew missions in Bosnia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Iraq and Afghanistan.
“He is a legitimate United States hero,” Mainieri said. “I love him dearly and he is one of the special people in my life.”
Mainieri said he hopes the Alex Box crowd welcomes Kazlausky, who retired last year with the rank of major, in a manner similar to the way the opening night crowd welcomed Wake Forest coach Tom Walter last season. Walter received a standing ovation in recognition of him having donated a kidney to one of his players, Kevin Jordan.
“Last year, opening night was a very special night,” Mainieri said. “What a sight that was when 11,000 people stood as one and saluted that coach for his unselfish act. I really hope that the fans will greet (Kazlausky) the same way they greeted the Wake Forest coach last year — obviously acknowledge his sacrifice and commitment for us.

Doesn't that violate NCAA rules? You can't give him a hamburger, but you can give him a freaking kidney?!?!
All jokes aside, though, yes, I hope our fans to give the AF coach a warm welcome.

quote:I know I will....assuming of course the predicted rains don't cancel Friday night's game. I just looked on weather.com and for Saturday there is a 100% chance of rain. Friday is "only" 60%.
I hope our fans to give the AF coach a warm welcome.

and then we show them what athletes (not future servicemen)can do

I hope they don't drop some bombs on us....

No, the university checked it all out with the NCAA before they went through with it. NCAA cleared it.

We are gracious if nothing else.

I went to school with Kazlausky and flew C-17s as well. Good dude.

I just hope it somehow doesn't rain and we can kick Air Force's arse.

What class were you in? I was there for about a year and a half. Couldn't hack it myself, so I have special respect for the people that graduate from the academies. Most people have NO idea how hard it is to graduate from a service academy.

I graduated '92 but entered with the class of '91, Kazlausky's class. Took a year off after sophomore year to "chill out" a bit. Well worth it

Really? I didn't know you could take a year off like that. May have been something they got rid of, cause I would have made that plan had I known I could. I got burnt out pretty quick there.

How about serving your country - sounds like a great reason to me.

Especially to early seson, non-conference opponents.

Or is there going to be a new "applaud a veteran" movement everywhere? Good grief.

Are we now to give people ovations for doing their job?
As for me, I'm going to stand and cheer the guy. That's MY right.....
