Sitcoms from 1999-2004 (the period b/w Seinfeld and The Office)

Seinfeld ended in 1998, The Office debuted in 2005. I went back to look at what sitcoms were on TV for those 5 years between these two eras. Here's a list of most of the popular sitcoms during that period, I'm sure I left off a few that should be noted:
Friends - Never a big fan of this show, especially when it was well past its peak in the 2000's.
Frasier - Boooooring.
Everybody Loves Raymond - Booooooring.
Dharma and Greg - Stupid
Becker - Boooooring
Drew Carey Show - Not a fan but I don't mind it.
Spin City - Never got into it.
King of Queens - Decent show that I can enjoy every once in a while.
Will and Grace - Dumb.
Two and a Half Men - Overrated
That 70's Show - Pretty good series, but it's not even close to being Seinfeld/Office funny.
Seinfeld was brilliant comedy in the 90's, and when it went off the air it left a hugge void. After reviewing these shows, I'm much more thankful for The Office and the golden age of sitcoms that have followed after it (Parks and Rec, Community, 30 Rock, Modern Family...). Just imagine if sitcoms continued on the downward trend after Seinfeld and how shitty TV would be today.
Do yall think we're going to be entering another downward trend soon, or is the golden age of sitcoms here to stay?

I never watched King of Queens, but I catch it every now and then in syndication, and I find myself enjoying it. Kevin James is pretty funny.

Best sitcom on TV even in syndication

I liked Two Guys, A Girl, and a Pizza Place, but I guess it wasn't that popular.

I've tried, honestly I have. I just find myself staring at the TV not giving a frick about any of the characters and not understanding why anything should be funny.

Is this series worth watching from the beginning? I don't think I've ever watched a full episode of it.

So because you didnt like any sitcoms during that period and none of then compared to Seinfield, it was a "down period" for them?

There was Sport's Night during that period, which was great, but I am not sure if it really counts as a sitcom.

I sort of understand your point...(recent sitcoms have had smart writing) and there were some post-Seinfeld shows that felt like 80's shows.
Raymond, Queens and Carey, Two and a Half - all went back to simple and obvious laughs...and I guess the studios are right because they were hugely successful.
But Frasier was very very smart and people who love Spin City claim it was smart.

It was a down period for them. Up until a few years ago, the sitcom was borderline dead.
Also, Scrubs deserves some probs and it premiered in '01.
Edit: British sitcoms were alive and well:
Spaced '99-'01
The Office '01-'03
Coupling '00-'04

So Frasier was not funny, but you think 30 Rocl is funny. smh
BTW The Office is way overrated.

Well I guess you have to understand my perspective. I grew up on Seinfeld so it pretty much set the bar. Until The Office and the other new shows got going, none of those comedies from '99-'04 really "did it" for me. For those 5 years I never looked forward to watching a sitcom every week; I couldn't care less about those shows.
So maybe that '99-'04 era wasn't "down" per se, but from my perspective, that has been the worst era for sitcoms in my lifetime IMO.

I admit 30 Rock is my least favorite of the new shows I watch and enjoy, but it's a very popular show and I recognize it's quality even though it's not my favorite.

Don't know how I forgot that one. Not a big fan of Scrubs, but like 30 Rock I recognize it has a huge following and is a quality show.

It definitely declined towards the end, but this was a great show at the time. The rewatchability isn't all that, but when it was live it was must see TV.

Absolutely not. I watch it every night. Show won a ton of awards.

Show is hilarious.

I don't make a point to tune in but it's pretty funny sometimes.

Who said it was? It's a funny show, why does it have to be compared to other funny shows?
Here's your problem. You've taken the greatest sitcom EVER, of ALL TIME, and basically picked out the shows that came after it and said "well they aren't as good as seinfeld so this era must suck". Just because they aren't seinfeld doesn't mean they aren't good shows.

agree with most, but:
Fraiser was funny!
Drew Carey sucked unless it was a scene with Diedrich Bader and/or Ryan Stiles.
Spin was good with MJF.
King of Queens was almost as good, i thought, til Carrie got fat, then her jokes about Doug being fat had no more merit.
the rest i pretty much agree with, but... Arrested Development was just as good.
and you could argue Curb your Enthusiasm if its considered a sit-com.
