Hot Tamales in New Orleans / Metro Area

Besides dining in only at R&O's for their tamales, and taking out from Guillory's Grocery - who else has great tamales in the New Orleans / Metro area... I'm speaking of Manuel's level of greatness.

Lemonade parade operating out of the old Manuela has the best IMO.

Where is that? I'd love to get some today.

La Macerena has some good ones, but they are more on the specialty side.

High hat is a Delta tamale. Merlin's actually has elements of both but is not consistent.
The place in the old Manuel's has the recipe. New equipment though. The taste is very close.
Delta tamales are wrapped in corn husk, use more cornmeal and create a shell around the meat. More similar to central American styles. NO style tamales are smaller, wrapped in a clear paper and use less cornmeal and a beef mix.

I guess I just don't care for the New Orleans style Tamales
They're decent but not as good as the Latin American types IMO
The NOLA style ones are just a notch above the stuff that comes out of a can IMO

Agreed. I'll eat a NOLA tamale every now and then, and even sort of like it, but it looks like dog food that has been marinated in oil.

I've been there three times now and have never had the tamales. That places surprises me every time I go with their take on Americana food. I like a good tamale, maybe I will try that next time I check out Hi-Hat.

Re-up.
Learned this evening that Ro-Bear's in Harahan has THE Manuel's tamale recipe.
Had to get a dozen.
Will report back once heated.
Sold fresh, not frozen.

This is a Delta tamale. President Clinton ate here when he was in office.
