The track team certainly has a few. There are also a few swimmers that are hopefuls.

Of the current Tigers, I believe Kimberlyn Duncan is the only serious medal contender and she'll be on the minds of all the pros throughout the season. Riker Hylton and Semoy Hackett should also be present in London. Of the former Tigers, Kelly-Ann Beptiste (2008), who was the world's third fastest women last year, should be in the mix again this year. If Richard Thompson (2008), who won the 100 silver medal in Beijing behind Usain Bolt, can recapture his form from four years ago, he might also climb back on the medal stand. Then of course there's Lolo Jones (2004) and Muna Lee (2004) who will be trying to go to their second and third Olympics respectively.

I think Richard Thompson is getting back in the top form he had in the 2007-2008 stretch, so he may be a contender in the 100 meters again.

2008 was truly a Cinderella year for Thompson. In January, he was only considered the second fastest person on his team behind Trindon Holliday. Seven months later, after going undeafed through the college season, he was the second fastest person on the planet behind Usain Bolt.

Richard Thompson ran a career best of 9.85 last year in the 100m. If he can carry that form into August, he has a fair chance of medalling again. He will probably medal in the 4x100m relay.

Former Tiger 400m hurdler Isa Phillips will most likely be representing Jamaica, as will current Tiger long jumper Damar Forbes.

Jeremy Hicks placed third at last year's US championships in the long jump. He has a fair chance of making it to London if he can meet the qualification standard.

Former Tiger sprinter Gabriel Mvumvure represented Zimbabwe in the World Championships last summer, and is likely to represent them in the Olympics but is no threat to even make the final of his events.

Kimberlyn Duncan broke the Bernie Moore Stadium record in the 100 this past Saturday. That's pretty amazing when you consider all the folks who have run on that track, including those who competed in the four NCAA championships that LSU has hosted.

Let's also keep in mind Barrett Nugent. Making the team will be a tall order for him since the U.S. is so deep in his event, but if he makes the team, he has a 50%/50% chance of getting a medal.
