Stars and rankings don't mean anything.

How many LSU all Americans were 3*. Look at how many NFL all pros weren't even drafted. Scouts aren't gods. LSU will continue to dominate with players that want to play here. We are going to start the season top five in the nation and we aren't falling off. If you are to scared to go to a school because of the depth chart then we don't need you. All great players want to play against the best.
All you haters need to piss off!!!!

Are you crazy? All of LSU's most successful seasons have come after stringing their higher ranked classes and not after stringing their lower ranked classes together. Think before you post.

Actually, empirical evidence shows that five stars have approximately a 1/15-1/20 chance of becoming All-Americans, while 3 stars have approximately a 1/150 - 1/200 chance of becoming All-Americans at the D-1A level. Similarly, a much greater percentage of five stars are drafted. Definitely exceptions to the rule, but you want to live and die with the rule.

You're right. Pure coincidence the best recruiting team in the nation has won 2 of the last 3 championships.

They mean something. They don't mean as much as the recruiting services would have you believe but they are generally a predictor of future success.
There are always busts and there are always diamonds in the rough.
Teams that contend for elite honors have successive years of great recruiting (as listed by the major services). Teams that don't consistently recruit in the Top 10 are Ole Miss and Miss State.
LSU's great success since 2000 is reflective of pretty consistently reeling in Top 10 classes. It's why Saban had them build the Academic support center and the Football Operations building.
You're an idiot or imbecile if you think rankings don't mean "anything".

If you want to get thrilled about lower ranked classes, that's fine.
Personally, I stopped doing that after Hallman.

This is true. However, how many LSU All American's were 5 star recruits in comparison to 3 and 4 stars? Evaluated HS talent is only a small part of the overall equation.

A team full of 5 stars will beat a team full of 2 stars more often than not
There are outliers, but stars do matter

Hmmm - Serious question, Does this take into account there are X 5*, XX 4* and XXX 3* (Obviously there are way more 3* than 5*)

I'll take a 5* all day long over a 3.

It is a bit like SAT/ACT/GRE scores and prediction academic success. Standardized test scores only account for about 9% of later academic success but are currently the single best predictor that schools have, which is why everyone uses them.

Not a serious question. Do you think they'd do a percentage calculation without this? Really?

Yes they do. Please don't act like Texas A&M to excuse our piss poor performance this year.

Of course you would, right now. Because that's all the facts you have to go on. You would be stupid not to.
However, coaches regularly take lower ranked players over higher ranked players. They have addtional information that you and the people that do rankings don't have. And their internal rankings are usually very different than media rankings.
Saying they don't mean anything is dumb. Should be they don't mean everything and are extremely flawed.

I am assuming that you meant to reply to the OP.

I am willing to bet you have just as many hits and misses for 4*, 3*, 2*, and 1* players as you do for 5*.... the difference is sample size of 5* is smaller but the averages will probably be same.
