That's a lie by Stanford. He gets into Harvard if the coach wants him. Shaw just doesn't have the nads to admit that they wanted someone else.

I seriously doubt that Tiger scored in the 30s. Not because he's dumb but because 98 percent of his life was golf after he was 3.

If the school really wants him, they go the old academic waiver route. Most FBS schools do this, not sure about Stanford.

My mistake. Stanford does have the highest average SAT average in the country, at least according to some data from more than a decade ago. I got that screwed up with the adjusted graduation rates.

Now, average SAT scores have gone up both nationally (50th percentile is a higher score now than a decade ago) and among athletes. The Atlanta Journal Constitution has data for public schools only. As you can see, there are very few public schools on the initial list.

But in 2008, the top public schools were GT (1028), Oregon State (997), Michigan (997), and UVA (993). So let's say there is about a 50-60 point increase for most schools. That means Stanford's average is probably in the 1100-1110 range.

Yeah, it's been since 2003 that I was applying for colleges, but I remember needing an SAT score if I wanted to leave the South.

Interesting. I never paid too much attention to the fine print since I took the SAT as a junior, but I remember Yale's requirements being either the SAT, SAT Writing, and two subject tests or the ACT and two SAT subject tests.

I'm surprised that some schools would be more rigid than Yale when it comes to testing.
