I know this has been discussed 6.3 million times on here, but how the he'll does Texas and Ohio St. continue to real in top ranked cases and yet do nothing on the field. And don't get me started on ND. I kind of feel bad for them...

Well if we close like Gino J. predicts "and I certainly hope so" it is easy top 5 probably top 3, come on Les we need you to work some riverboat magic.
I know we read from everyone that rankings don't really matter and point to different things to prove it. I point to results to prove that rankings do matter - Look what Saban has done with the Gumps basically the number 1 "or in top 3 depending what service" recruiting class the last 3 years in a row and look at the results 2 national championships in 3 years. LSU has also had high ranked recruiting classes the last 3 years we need to continue the trend if we want to continue to compete.

Texas was in the BCS CG in 2009 and Ohio State was in the Sugar Bowl in 2010, how is that not doing anything on the field?

Scout is counting Hill in this class. That gives a more accurate ranking for this class, IMO. Can't believe that we'll get no credit on Rivals for a four star running back.

The level of competition is not even in the same ballpark IMO. However I see what your saying and I know this, but as the poster above made reference to recruiting class rankings and end results, they should be contending every year. However they back into BCS games due to the level of competition in their league. This was just a random thought in my head that probably should have stayed there.

1. in your heart, YOU will know.
2. LSU is #1 in preseason polling. Life goes on.

Also we are the only team (per Scout) ranked in the top 12 without one 5 star recruit. Hope that changes this weekend.

247 is counting Hill. They have LSU at 12 and they haven't added Phillips as a commitment, yet. Phillips is a four star on 247.

Like most individuals who follow recruiting, I don't give much attention to the "star" ranking of a player(s). With that being said, I DO give a lot of credit and attention to how well overall LSU recruited. As mentioned, by consistently recruiting in the Top 5 in the nation, a team can be assured of at least some high level of talent for the coaches to mature and progress. LSU moved from #13 to #7 with the addition of two commits. With the caliber that is left and/or projected, LSU could easily move into one of the Top 3 spots. That was the purpose of the thread...to give us all a little ray of light into the darkness of what has been a rough month.

And we thank you for that.

Rivals has Hill in last years LSU class?

I don't think Hill ever signed a LOI so its why would rivals count him in that class?

No. He never signed a LOI, so he wasn't counted. Basically, LSU will get no credit on Rivals for Hilll.

Then you are wrong. The SEC is the best conference, no one disputes that, but this idea that the B1G and Big 12-4 are not in the same ballpark is just ridiculous.

Both Texas and Ohio State have been contenders every year recently. Texas had 2 bad seasons in a row, maybe they shouldn't have been as bad as they have, but bad QB has killed them, the D this year was pretty good.

How does a 13-0 team back into the BCS CG?

Because the SEC is better does not mean the other conferences suck. The level of competition argument is faulty logic. Look at Bama's schedule, they played 2 good SEC teams and no, Florida or Auburn would not won the Big 12.

To back up the claim that we could round out in the top 3, I did some quick math on if we had a great tail end push and picked up the following commitments:
Liggins-121 pts
Patterson-293 pts
Edwards-300 points
Howard-296 pts
K. Alexander-217 pts
This would give LSU another 1227 points to its current 3319 points for a total of 4546 total points. That is an overall ranking of #3 and does not include Corey Thompson. With his commitment, we would surpass Texas at the #2 spot but not Alabama.

Yeah, it makes no sense. Hill is basically a walk-on on the Rivals system, and I don't know why. In every other instance I can think of, a player like Hill counts.
On the other hand, we were credited for top 50 recruit DeAngelo Benton twice.

It's likely they'll adjust to put Hill in before signing day.
