TC...
It seems that the Southeast side of the lake is really turning on. Due to heavy rain, the northern portion of the lake isn't holding big trout on a regular basis just yet. The shrimp are definitely in the lake though. I caught 20 nice sized shrimp in three casts from Hebert's Marina about a week ago.
The birds are hanging around a reef called Chenier, on the Southeast side of the lake. For topwater, use live shrimp under a cork. For plastics, use a Margarita or Chicken on a Chain Sand Eel.
GPS Hot Spots

Personally, I would fish Cross Reef, the flats of Long Point [might hold some birds], the Old Jetties, and the 5th Weir.

If all else fails, fish the birds if they are diving heavy and any area you find other clusters of boaters that you can respectfully enter.

Apparently the same model that fits a Yamaha 50 HP will fit up to a Yamaha 90 HP. A seperate model [the 18MM] fits the Yamaha 115 HP and above.

So, how long before Bama flips him...

Take this for what it's worth. Yes, it is heresay, but it is interesting, none-the-less. A fellow coworker of mine's first cousin is the head football coach at Neville High School. This Co-Worker and his cousin talk on a regular basis. Apparently, Diarse is a very bright young man and, above all, he wanted to go somewhere that had a high graduation rate, recognized for their quality education, etc. He liked LSU in that regard, but was not sold on the way Miles handled the QB situation, coaching decisions at times, etc. My Co-Worker specifically mentioned that it was said that Diarse would never play for Saban. He did not like his egotistical, holier-than-though attitude. He was interested in a few west coast schools, Oregon was mentioned specifically, if they offered. According to my Co-Worker, Diarse would visit LSU and if he was convinced that he would get a good education and be well coached and utilized at LSU then he would commit. Apparently, the addition of Henry and what he saw this weekend on campus impressed him enough to give his verbal.

re: point ranking system

Here is the team ranking formula for those interested... (please keep in mind a statistician from UC-Berkeley developed this for us).

Please note you only take the top 20 prospects in this formula, ordered by # Stars descending.

POINTS = ((N / (N + 50)) * H) + ((50 / (N + 50)) * L)

where...

H = 250 for each 5-star commit + 140 for each 4-star + 75 for each 3-star + 20 for each 2-star + 10 for each 1-star

L = 18 for each 5-star + 12 for each 4-star + 8 for each 3-star + 3 for each 2-star + 1 for each 1-star

N = a big honkin' calculation, described below

CALCULATION OF N:
10 for each commit on the Rivals 100 (high school) ranked 1-10
9 for each commit on the Rivals 100 (high school) ranked 11-20
etc. down to...
1 for each commit on the Rivals 100 (high school) ranked 91-100

10 for each commit on the Rivals 100 (non-high school) ranked 1-10
9 for each commit on the Rivals 100 (non-high school) ranked 11-20
etc. down to...
6 for each commit on the Rivals 100 (non-high school) ranked 41-50

24 for each commit ranked #1 on his official position ranking
18 for each commit ranked #2-5 on his official position ranking
8 for each commit ranked 6-X on his official position ranking, where X is dependent on detail position, as listed below...

--Dual-threat QB: 25
--Pro-style QB: 25
--Running Back: 35
--All-Purpose Back: 15
--Fullback: 15
--Wide Receiver: 50
--Tight End: 20
--Offensive Tackle: 40
--Offensive Guard: 30
--Offensive Center: 10
--Defensive Tackle: 50
--Weakside Defensive End: 20
--Strongside Defensive End: 30
--Inside Linebacker: 35
--Outside Linebacker: 35
--Cornerback: 40
--Safety: 30
--Athlete: 25
--Kicker: (no points awarded for rank lower than 5th)

If the team's average stars are greater than 3, add (100 * (Avg stars - 3)) to N.

So in other words..according to Rivals if you have a need for a kicker, whether he is the best kicker out of high school or not, you get no points and all you have to do is sign a class full of Defensive Tackles and Wide Receivers and you will be the "best recruiting class in the nation"
We are still rather low in both Rivals and ESPN BUT both Rivals and ESPN use a grading system that reeks of sloppyness. Rivals lists 20 commitments and fails to average in the ranking of Jeremy Hill. ESPN lists 22 commitments. It is hard to trust a site that can't even get the number of verbals correct much less have us in a virtual three way tie with Auburn and Texas Tech. Scout seems to have the fairest grading system and offers the most up-to-date information. They are open about their point system whereas the others want you to pay for a subscription in order to see how the stars align.
Add Vinson or Loston=Four Horseman
Leave it at three-The Triple Alliance or The Furies
To back up the claim that we could round out in the top 3, I did some quick math on if we had a great tail end push and picked up the following commitments:
Liggins-121 pts
Patterson-293 pts
Edwards-300 points
Howard-296 pts
K. Alexander-217 pts

This would give LSU another 1227 points to its current 3319 points for a total of 4546 total points. That is an overall ranking of #3 and does not include Corey Thompson. With his commitment, we would surpass Texas at the #2 spot but not Alabama.
Like most individuals who follow recruiting, I don't give much attention to the "star" ranking of a player(s). With that being said, I DO give a lot of credit and attention to how well overall LSU recruited. As mentioned, by consistently recruiting in the Top 5 in the nation, a team can be assured of at least some high level of talent for the coaches to mature and progress. LSU moved from #13 to #7 with the addition of two commits. With the caliber that is left and/or projected, LSU could easily move into one of the Top 3 spots. That was the purpose of the thread...to give us all a little ray of light into the darkness of what has been a rough month.

For those of you who enjoy really great stews, you should try this "Seafood Stew Recipe" that we have been cooking for years. It is sure to impress even the most finicky of eaters and it is absolutely delicious. We have substitued everything from catfish to alligator for this recipe so feel free to add ingredients that you know you and your guests would enjoy.

Name: Seafood Stew
Ingredients:
2 lb of medium shrimp
1 pint of lump crab meat
10-15 large scallops
1 pint of shucked oysters in its own liquor
Two medium yellow onions
1 bunch of green onions
1 medium green, yellow, red, or orange bell pepper
2 stalks of celery
1 bay leaf
1 bunch of parsley (1/2 cup roughly chopped) or 1 rounded teaspoon of dried parsley
4 cloves of garlic
1 Jalapeno pepper deseeded and deveined chopped
2 cans of Condensed Cream of Shrimp Soup
2 tablespoons of Dark Roux
2 sticks of unsalted butter
1 8-12 oz jar of clam juice (This can be found either in the canned meat section of the store and/or occasionally in the drink mix section)

1. Dice the onions, bell pepper, celery, half of the green onions (save upper half for garnish), garlic, and parsley and set aside.
2. In a large cast iron pot, bring up the heat to medium (6-7 on some stoves).
3. Add the butter and bayleaf and melt until slightly sizzling.
4. Add the chopped vegetables and stir for 10-15 minutes or until the onions are clear.
5. Add the two cans of Cream of Shrimp plus two cans of water and reduce heat to medium low (4-5).
6. In a seperate pot, bring the clam juice to a boil and add the Dark Roux stirring occasionally until dissolved thoroughly.
7. Add the clam stock to the stew pot and stir.
8. Add the lump crab meat and scallops and cook for 20-30 minutes or until the desired consistancy is reached.
9. Add the shrimp and cook for additional 10 minutes.
10. Add the oysters plus their liquor and cook for 5 minutes.

Garnish with the remaining half of chopped green onions, more chopped parsley, and the jalapeno pepper.

Serve over rice. This will serve 10-12 people and is great for games, holidays, etc.

I trust in LSU's uncanny "farsightedness", ability to see potential years down the road if you will, and after reading the response about Elston, he may not be the right fit for LSU. There has to be some merit for LSU not offering so I will leave it at that. I don't see outright egotism with Edwards or Howard. I basically see two atheletes struggling to make the best decision for them. I respect the fact that they didn't limelight and showcase their intentions at any of the All-American games. To me (on a personal level), this shows a degree of class, humbleness, and forethought. Those are the kind of players I enjoy watching LSU sign. The same could be said about Phillips. As far as Hill? Toss up for me. His legal issues point more toward a character flaw than a "bad decision." I would hate to hear of another counterfeiting scheme or bar fight down the road with one of our major prospects.
You would think that with the enthusiasm of SEC schools pursuing Trae Elston that LSU's name would be mentioned. I find it hard to believe that every other SEC school (East and West) have a standing offer and LSU doesn't? He doesn't have quite the size of Thompson, though but can we lure Thompson away from A&M?
As far as Edwards, I would love to see him at LSU. I am just not getting my hopes up until I hear of his LOI being signed. Watching him play in the UA game was a real treat. He has speed off the ball and reminds me of Montgomery.
As LSU fans it is in our nature to want and hope that high caliber high school players like Green-Beckham and Mario Edwards would choose LSU this late in the game. The simple fact is that we are not even on the lists of interests for Edwards, Diggs, DGB, Magee, etc. Just because they are unsigned in no way indicates that we have a shot at them. A more realistic remaining five will probably look more like:
Tracy Howard
Lorenzo Phillips
Jeremy Hill
E.J Fatu
Fifth (and possibly sixth) being a toss up between Davonte Neal, James McFarland, or Richie Brown.
It is my opinion that it has always been LSU's specialty to develop strong three and four stars into five star NFL caliber players. I would be perfectly happy with five of the eight listed above.
How quickly we forget the 2001 season. How many of you were shaking your heads in dismay when Rohan Davey got injured in the 2001 SEC Championship game and Matt Mauck was given the call? I know that deep down we were all saying "who is this guy?" Before getting injured in the 2002 season he went 5-1 and led us to a NC in 2003. The point is--that was Mauck's breakout game which gave him the confidence to be a leader at the quarterback position. The same analogy could be made with Jefferson. The game against GT should have and more than likely will show him that he has what it takes to lead this team. Even a little bit of confidence can go a long way and improve his quarterback play as a whole.
