I hope I'm not getting excited over nothing! He better live up to the hype!

Well, we wont have much cap room to do much with our defense.

I wouldnt get too excited. If he can have a "bend but dont break" defense like Gregg Williams, we should be in line to win 11+ games again next year. Williams has been wrongfully vilified. Looking at the big picture, we lost at San Fran because of 5 turnovers, not because they couldn't guard Vernon Davis.

The radio waves this week have been all about "what can we do with this defense now". Everyone is throwing out all these wild ideas, 3-4 defense, moving Malcom Jenkins to CB, cutting Roman Harper, etc etc. People, people, people....We wont have the cap room to change our defense much. We must hope that guys like Martez Wilson can step up should we have to cut Vilma, or that we can find a solid DT in the draft or cheap in free agency to replace Franklin/Rodgers. Hope that someone can fill in the #3 CB spot should we have to let Porter walk.

A lot of our personnel next year will have to be filled internally or through the draft. But i think it is enough talent to do what i mentioned before; bend but not break, and let our offense win it when it matters.

Yes and no. Yes the 5 turnovers is what really killed us, but he had a habit of being hyper-aggressive in very predictable ways.

while this is true, no one can excuse the coverage on VD to end the game.

Also with as many unsuccessful blitz attempts as we had this year it left the middle of the field wide open.... See both the Lions games, Packers game, and 1st Falcons game(Harry Douglas destroyed us) for examples of this.

This is true but not as bad as many think.

The Saints already have some decent talent on defense but for the most part have underachieved. Spags should turn out to be a good hire.
