This wasn't one guy...this was a standing room only fast food joint full of gumps cheering on this sick bastard...not one tried to stop it. I would say it represents their fan base quite well...

That's my point. Nobody thought his behavior was out of line. It gives you a real insight into the mentality of the Bama fan.

Downing will be cheered by the Gumps as Updyke was, you're an idiot if you think otherwise. The gumps are chuckling around their spit cups about the whole incident, I promise you.

The Gumps want to say all fans bases have these morons, but nobody loves them like they do. I have tailgated and gone to parties with them, had a good time, but I can tell you we were surrounded by people I would not like to run into in the woods.

It's called "mob mentality". People in groups tend to go with the herd. Do you think the people in Vancouver, BC who rioted for hours on end acting like lawless animals destroying property and burning cops cars for hours on end would have done so without the mob egging it on. Same thing happened when LSU fans were harrassing an elderly wheelchaired visiting Auburn fan dying of cancer in the early 2000s at Tiger Stadium. And the LSU mob that broke out windows on the Tennessee team bus.

BTW, the guy no doubt deserves to be punished. No excuse for what HE did.

P.S. Here's a thread on a Bama board condemning both the teabagger AND Updyke. Of course, that doesn't fit into the agenda of this board so it will probably be ignored.
