That is one of the reasons I think the liberty on the site is a good thing. Imagine how devastated a recruit would be if he saw only sunshine pumping on TD, and then got booed in Tiger Stadium. But... but... they were so nice on the internet message board, why did they boo me in real life????!!!?!! It lets the recruits get a taste of the culture.
More, to that point, I routinely hear it said that it is a minority / a very small group of LSU fans (10% was the number posited in this thread) that are bad apples. I tend to think the "minority" is much larger than the fan base wants to admit. yea, there are some good fans, and most of the fans are good people, but there is more than a tiny minority that can get nasty about the players, coaches, etc.
