The NCAA should change the eligibility to...

5 SCHOOL years to play 4 instead of the CALENDAR year. That would eliminate the early enrollee system that is BS IMO. Why should certain players get to get a "free" spring practice under their belt and not everyone? Same goes for summer school It gives certain players and programs a distinct advantage.
It allows some kids to attend school and participate in the program without it really counting against anything. A player that also plays high school baseball or runs track, or wants to go to prom, or graduate with his friends cannot do the same.
Just make it so the signees for every school shows up for fall practice and not any time before that. Make the system fair for every team and player.

everyone has the same opportunity to do it. i dont see why its unfair
if kids have their school work in order, and want to get a head start, why not?

I agree with the OP

It is based on the seasons within those 5 years, so it is basically school years anyway.

I don't have a problem if they want to enroll at mid-term, but that will cost them one year under my proposal. A player shouldn't be able to get a "free" spring practice that doesn't really count against the number of seasons he can play.

a reward for putting academics first in high school and graduating early

No. A mid-term enrollee that redshirted and plays four season is in school during 6 school years. With my proposal he would have to give up his redshirt or a Year of eligibility if he wants to enroll early.

Unfair in and of itself: many students don't have that option.

it's a stupid proposal that doesn't really have any pros

The frick? It's a reward for going to summer school and extra classes for 3-4 years. This shite is stupid. Let's de-emphasize academics even more.

He wouldn't be in for 6 full years and there would still only be 5 seasons within the time frame you are talking about. So you penalize him and count a full year even though he was only there for half of the year....and that half wasn't even the one that contained the season?

No, they aren't. If they start in the spring as an early enrollee, their scholarship can only run through the fall of their 5th year, unless they are granted an extra year of eligibility. It's a year to year scholarship and without medical hardship is only for 5 years from the start date.

You also have to be on the block system. So not all kids have the opportunity.

No you don't. Where the hell did you get that BS from?
You can take classes concurrently such as biology and chemistry, or chemistry and physics. You can also take English in the summer session. Kids have done it before and it doesn't require the block system.

You can take classes in the summer as well as ET classes in the AM to get the extra hours to graduate early.

there aren't really "school years" in college. Eligibility would conclude at the same time regardless of enrolling in the spring or fall, the benefit of coming in the spring is an extra spring practice.

So you saying player should be able to play 5 season and only get 4 spring practices, because a spring practice after the season does not good because it is preparation for the next season.
Asking why its fair for kids who earned ear graduation and the ability to enroll early is like asking why some players get scholarships and others don't. Also it is good for graduation rates.
