We had this discussion on here, not one to say told you so, this just really sucks. Let me ask this again, who many times since GW has been here has his defense stopped the other team when they had the ball last, without a turnover......I remmeber one game against carolina, maybe one other

I had a bad feeling about this game mostly due to the SF defense forcing turnovers. They forced 5 of them. And we still had the lead with 1:30 left.

And then Alex Smith became immortalized

I thought they recovered from to. but this team could score 70 and get beat if the other team has the ball last with chance to win we are in trouble no matter who it is.

If there was one worry I had the entire week it was the defense not being about to get it done in a close game, against a pedestrian offense. They never have.

i wouldn't say they 'forced' 5, as much as we 'committed' 5..... the roby fumble was just him having his head in his arse....

I knew that Drew was going to give up one or two. They dont drop ints like the lions but I thought we would still be ok.

So you really were able to predict 5 turnovers and 2 incredible drives by the 49ers and Saints in the final minutes? I need to bet with you then because in now way did I see any of this coming. I watched the game and still think the Saints are the better team because we should've won despite 5 turnovers. May cost Williams his job and honestly I think it should considering last year's playoff loss as well. Can't give up 41 to the Seahawks and 36 to the 49ers who each have mediocre offenses at best and continue doing the same stuff.

our turnover margin was -4 and if our defense doesn't fold we win. if it were -3 or -2 we win easily.

No many of us on here felt this defense was simply too bad to make a play off run. They are really the worst of everyone left by far. They are the packers Defense with no takeways, but yes statisically we were bound to lose battle of takeways against 49ers as they are like plus 39 or something and we were minus 2 going into the game

Sproles doesn't fumble ever, but today he fumbled without any contact from the defender.

Roby pulls a completely moronic move.

Brees throws one bad interception where the left side of the field was open, he had Arrington open deep, and Sproles open most of all underneath.

Another int was just as good as a punt, but we tossed it up after a stoppage of clock so I guess we said go deep and it bit us in the arse.

PT's fumble is just tough luck, if that play goes differently he falls into the Endzone for the TD, or we keep the ball and go up 3-0 and the entire game is different.

Every thing that could go wrong did go wrong, and yet we were 2 Gregg Williams decisions away from winning. He goes blitz and has Jenkins defend Davis, he doesn't jam him at LOS and gives up the inside allowing Davis to get the separation and the catch. We play zone and don't have anyone plastered to their biggest red zone weapon in Davis.

We had poor technique this entire season from many players due to lack of knowledge, coaching, whatever, and then we had horrid schemes to put players in extremely tough positions not suited to minimizing their weaknesses.

We did literally so much wrong and were just one play away from winning this game, pretty amazing.

Atlanta in Atlanta and Tennessee, just off the top of my head. I'm sure there were others.

I felt like we would turn the ball over, SF's defense is the real deal. But we had been overcoming our mistakes. I mean we were -3 in the TO differential coming into this game and had 14 wins despite that. Lately, the defense had been getting more turnovers but you had to think it would be a tall order for our defense to get turnovers from them. They have been great at not turning the ball over. I mean when Harper blasted Alex Smith on their first drive and he fumbled, man, you gotta recover that fumble Give the 49ers credit though, they protected the ball.

That is just it, twice we forced them to misplace the ball but they were always there to pounce on it. Where as when we fumbled it bounced right into the lap of one of their players or they literally landed on the ball. Just unlucky the ball didn't bounce our way, but credit to them for forcing the turnovers and our fault for not being more secure with the ball.
