re: A Memo to Coach Les Miles - an appeal to show CHARACTER

How many big-time college football teams routinely bench starting QBs during a bad stretch of play? You guys are acting like its a common occurrence. In fact, the most common occurrence is to pick a starter and stay with him. The idea is to let that player go through the ups and downs.
Now, if you want to dispute who should be the starter, then have at it. I tend to agree with those who think Lee may have been better.
But I fail to see how a head football coach displays poor CHARACTER by playing his chosen starter.
And then, for every butthurt fan that wants to have a reason spelled out to them to claim that keeping quiet is a character issue?! Ya'll are freakin outa your mind! I would love to know, sure. But what if he comes out and says something degrading to Lee-- publicly. Obviously whatever it is cannot be a complement to Lee.
Shitty character would be to publicly criticize a college kid so some butthurt middle-aged fat guys like me can feel better!

The part none of you guys will grasp is that Miles, since the end of 2008, has felt Jefferson gave the team the best chance to win. Read it again so that will sink in...
This is the basic theme of your post, and I agree with your point. It is undeniably true that the coaching staff always felt since 2008 that Jefferson gave LSU the best chance to win, and that is there call, and they should do what's best for the team.
But...

I realize there has and always will be a contingent of LSU fans that believe Lee can and routinely does walk on water
I think many got frustrated with the thought that the coaching staff believes that Jefferson can and routinely does walk on water.
And for anybody that acts like "Come on people, the man lost one game...", has your head been in the sand for the last two seasons? People have not been asking about the unequal treatment of these two players only after a loss. This has been going on after nearly every game, of which LSU has won as much as anyteam in the entire country, of the last two years.

Do you honestly believe there were no reasons for the Lee situation?

the same coaching staff that has seen him the past 3 years didnt believe he was the best choice. If not for the suspension, he doesn't see the field for a meaningful snap this season. The coaches did not believe he could help them win the past 2 games. Could they have been wrong? Sure.
Not quite sure why this is hard to grasp. I mean, I realize for some why it's hard to understand...that is, why Miles and staff would consider JJ to be the better option...but why can't people grasp that they actually did?
They have thought JJ was the best option since late 2008. Everything they've done since that times points to that conclusion. And as you suggested, Jefferson was the clear starter going into 2011.
Disagree with his decision to play him all you want...but why the need to suggest that not playing one of his players who he clearly feels gives the team a slightly smaller chance of success is some nefarious personal issue? Is that the only way some of these guys can wrap their heads around the possibility of Miles not seeing in Lee what they all do?

and they have made plenty of questionable coaching decisions in miles' tenure at LSU

and, once again, their football decision making (not character) is shown to be questionable
miles' character should only be brought up in quitting monday night

Sure. But i trust their opinion over the expert opinion of the rant, who's collective football IQ probably doesn't equal to the football IQ Miles shits out in the morning.
miles has tendencies. some are good, and some are bad. once we rolled with JJ, the bad tendencies rose up again and led to our demise. we ran a different type of offense early on in the year and we were killing teams with it. it was unlike anything i've seen under miles. pure aggression

The key word there is APPEAR. No one really knows, yet continue to believe what they want to believe. I have NEVER in my life experienced a fan base so enamored with a back up QB. When it was Flynn, everyone wanted RP, Russell, everyone wanted Flynn. frick people, get over the fact that someone in charge is paid to make these decisions and it isnt you! He made an awful gameplan, but stop with the Lee shite.

It's taken me many years with Miles as coach to just realize that he is stubborn, and is going to do whatever the hell he wants. In the end, all of the bitching and questioning from the LSU fans and the media doesn't mean shite to him or the athletic department. He is just going to collect his millions and keep doing the same shite that we love and the same shite that we hate. I have chosen to just accept this and hope we keep winning.

Dumb arse letter. I'm a Bama fan and all you can ask of any coach is that he regularly compete for the SEC title and every once in awhile have a shot at an NC (and beat AU regularly if your Bama). Les did a fantastic job this year and is poised to do it again next year. WTF do you want?

C'mon man!! If Miles truly believes this then he is totally ignant or simply chose to forget the first 8 games of the season! Did JL not win or help us win those games? What changed? Did he all of a sudden become a loser? C'mon man....think before you type some shite like that!

And there are many like you. I had come to the same point until Monday night.

And you know for a fact?! Are you at practice regularly?? You must be in all of the meetings to know this...right??? Something must be going on for you to be SO certain, because Miles and the rest of the coaches are probably never around him and cant pay any attention to him if he didnt play.

We won DESPITE Jefferson's TWENTY-FIVE total yards against Georgia. And then turned around and lost BECAUSE of Jefferson not being able to move the ball against BAMA. The defense did what it could. The offense lost. You can't get worse than ZERO.
With Lee, we beat Oregon despite Lee going 10-12 for 98 yards. We beat Bama despite Lee going 3-7 24 yards and 2 INT. We have had inept QB play since 2009. Just accept that and move on.
21-0 could get much worse. Alot worse when you start pressing and throwing picks, like the one JJ threw trying to make a play to ware.

Miles doesn't play the qb you want him to, so now he has a huge character flaw? Some of you continue to take this way too far.

well there are 2 things
1. Lee showed earleir in the year that he can be a pretty damn efficient passing QB (even with the horrible game at bama, his stats were solid). we do know that lee can produce
2. if no QB could beat out JJ, then our coaches have absolutely failed at recruiting/developing QBs the past 5-6 years

I want him to retain his character with the fan base, and based on the most talked about decision maybe in recent LSU football, it appears that a large number of people feel there is something other than a football decision involved. The appeal is to clear that up in order for him to avert questions about his central theme of character.
See, one of the biggest mistakes Miles ever made was not telling he fanbase as a whole to go piss up a rope the way Saban routinely did. Remember back when some local TV station simply ran a poll about who sould be the starting QB in 2004...Russell or Randal? Saban went ape shite on them, and the fanbase rallied to him and agreed the station should not have done it.
Can you imagine suggesting Saban owed us an explanation about a QB controversy largely manufactured by the fans?
If you want me to point to a mistake on Miles part in this entire handling of the QB's I'd give you this...that he should have simply said JJ was his guy and that JL was the back up and would play when he plays. By trying to appease fans who had picked sides he set up their expectations probably for no reason...

this argument is irrelevant to me
21-0 = loss
30-0 = loss
this was the final game. it was zero-sum. you win or lose

After what we saw in the SECCG and on Monday night, if Miles (and the coaching staff) really thought that JJ (who I often refer to as "negative brain function") gave LSU the best chance of winning, then there might be a competency issue.

He showed he could do that with a phenomenal run game and not having to deal with a viscous pass rush. It had been established Nov 5th, that the run game was not effective and the pass rush was deadly.

Im pretty sure not a single solitary person who has seen an LSU football game over the last 4-5 years, would argue with that.

You want the story of Jarett Lee!? Miles didn't believe Lee could help him win any of the final games. Point. Blank. fricking period.

We are not talking about any of the final games, we are talking about THE final game. Maybe only half of the final game... by halftime, any sane person could not have imagined things wold be any different. Hell, give Mett a shot!! It worked a few years ago when we put RP in at the SEC CG!! Its CLM fixation with JJ that is so dam frustrating...
