this is crappy considering it may make LSU look bad to a stud we really could use now

Rivals Story

quote:

"My mom doesn't know where I am going," Tracy Howard said. "And it isn't her decision to make for me."

Howard is the No. 1 cornerback in the nation hailing from Miramar (Fla.) High.

According to his Rivals.com profile he is down to a final six schools: Alabama, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Miami, and West Virginia.

He says the decision is all the players to make and that Collins' mom should have been there for her son.

"It's ignorant (of her)," he said. "She should support him."

The support - or lack thereof - was what puzzled Ramsey (N.J.) Don Bosco defensive lineman Darius Hamilton.

"There is a way to conduct yourself in those situations," he said. "When you are on national television she shouldn't have done that to her son.

ouch

Make LSU look bad? The mom wanted to watch her son play every game of his college career.... Now she has to drive 6 hours to do that

Or he could be buttering his mom up to be nicer to him when he tells her he's going out of state

On some level they are right. On another level their just more 17/18 year olds who think they know everything.

I agree with the kids.

Bless her heart for being honest and wanting him to choose LSU, but in that situation - just smile and clap.

Could this affect standing with recruits such as Howard?

Watching the passion of LSU faithful unfold in such a public manner with unfortunate outcomes could leave a bad taste in some mouths

This is an announcement that should have been done in private not on national TV. Im not against the national tv stuff but its clear there was some division. I hope she supports him and I wish him the best at Bama. We will be fine at LSU. Some kids just prefer to go away to school. I understand it.

I guess you have to be a parent to understand why she acted the way she did. Not saying it was right but I could totaly understand her disapointment especially if he told her he was choosing LSU to get her to come to the game. She wasn't coming at first so was she not coming because she new it would be tuff for her. Maybe she tried to do the right thing by not coming.

None of this makes LSU look bad.

In fact I think this article shows LSU may be in a good situation with Tracy Howard since his mom wants him at UF.

That's hilarious.

I don't condone her going on national TV and acting that way, either. But, please don't tell me how her actions are ignorant, when her son tells two staffs that he is committing to them for the sake of marketing himself.

I fully expect to watch a replay of his announcement and see Jay Mohr standing somewhere in his entourage.

Handsome Harry, sorry I am about to hijack this thread, but I see that you have Oral Roberts in your profile, when did you go there? I went around 2003. Again, sorry for the hijack.

This actually sounds good for us since the mom is a Florida fan and he could be in the SAME EXACT situation as LC.

Come to Baton Rouge Tracy!

I see both sides..yes a parent should be supportive, but a parent should also know ahead of time and had time to digest it.

The respectful thing to do IF and I say IF! you have a good relationships with your mother and father is to sit down and say I know you want me to go to LSU, but I really want to go to Alabama and I need your blessing before I go public, can I get that from you?".

Clearly, they didnt' work it out privately...and she showed her true feelings like a mom should do.

How many of us are used to being on TV and being put on the spot? "What do you think?"

My son would never tell me "It's none of your business"....Howard's comments are concerning to me...It shows a lack of respect for those that helped you along the way...

OMG!!! Howard isn't coming here now because there's a lady in Geismar, LA that acted selfish on TV!!!!!!!!!!!

This does not affect LSU in the least bit.

Honor means you include them in the decision.

Look how Kiel handle his recruitment

But his parents are married and that can't be overlooked in this case...

Too much has been made over this. The world isn't ending. We lost Janzen Jackson, we lost Eddie Lacy, we lost Darrington Sentimore, we lost Trovon Reed (I know the circumstances for each are different for each from Collins). Far as I can tell LSU is playing for the National Championship in about 72 hours, so it apparently hasn't hurt us that much. Moreover, the biggest faces on the only undefeated team in the country are people no one was talking about when they signed.

As far as the Mom's reaction, I have a hard time believing that if he was completely honest with her and the rest of the fam (esp. that he knew for 2 years where he was going), that his announcement would have been as big a shitshow as it was. But at the end of the day, no one on here knows what went down behind the scenes (whether he lied to her or Les Miles, or he had his mind made up 2 years ago), so no one, Bama or LSU fan, is in a position to be talking about her reaction.

Geaux Tigers.
