New Bottles of Whiskey: Had to spend some Christmas $$ on the vices

Black Maple Hill (great with a finish that tastes like maple syrup)
Ole Smokey Moonshine: Apple Pie (literally a dessert)
Elijah Craig 18 year (never had it, but got it on a recommendation who said he'd put it up there with Jefferson's Reserve and Blanton's- big names to live up to)
Elmer T. Lee (one of the most unknown, great whiskey out there- made by the same distillery as Blanton's, Buffalo Trace, etc)
Merry Christmas to me

I like these types of threads. Helps me to know what new gifts to buy the husband. His birthday is coming up.

Damn... 4 whiskeys I haven't tried a single one. I've tried the Elijah Craig 12 year though and it's a damn fine bourbon.
That Black Maple Hill sounds interesting. This might sound blasphemous, but ever tried the George Dickel 12? It has a lot of maple notes to it.

I got a bottle of George T Stagg for Christmas and it is probably one of the best bourbons I've ever had.

That's one that I've been trying to find. Definitely on my list of ones to try.

I haven't, but the guy that gave me the recommendation for the Elijah 18 said he used to drink that one in college and it was pretty good. Another guy who owns a liquor store here said that's his "go to" everyday drinking whiskey. May be worth a shot.

It's surprisingly good, in my opinion, and cheap.

Color me green! Where did we acquire these from? Comparing any of them to JR and Blanton's is pretty high praise. And there were enough casualties through the holidays that I can justify replacements for the dead soldiers.

I would love some reviews once you have some time to try them

You need to get it... I think it recently won first at some big competition.

Ole Smokey Moonshine is decent. I just have my friends family come in from Tennessee with a few jars. My favorite is the jar of moonshine filled with cherries. I use the cherries on other drinks. They even have the legal Popcorn Moonshine. He killed himself back in 09 I think it was, but the show Moonshiners has him on it. Hank Jr and others bought his recipe and all and distill it.

I've had the Black Maple Hill and it is excellent. Pretty pricy though. In this price range I like Blanton's the best. I went through a single cask/small batch bourbon phase a few years ago and I tried all the big names. We are talking degrees of greatness, but Blanton's is my personal favorite.
ETA: I found Eagle Rare to be a good value bourbon.

I'm always pumping up Elijah Craig on here. You will enjoy that one.
