I picked up a card today and it has Bama +2. I'm having a hard time figuring out why they would be favored over the #1 team who already defeated them at their place. Im not mad at all though, just curious.

Bama +2

Wouldn't that mean they were two point underdogs?

Yes. My local book has Bama -1.5 right now. I am going to take the 1.5 to the bank.

Well if they are +2 then you should be happy. That means we are favored by 2. Don't take this the wrong way, but I feel you may not need to bet on this game.

Bama +2 means that LSU is favored by two.

Bama -1.5 means that Bama is favored by 1.5.

If you are betting Bama, you'd be better off taking Bama +2.

If you are betting LSU, you'd be better off taking Bama -1.5.

Maybe that is what you meant.

I did state it wrong, they're giving LSU 2 points. All in all, Bama is favored on the card.

On the card Bama is favored. Of course Im gonna take LSU. I was gonna take them no matter what the point spread was. Favored or not.

They are giving LSU 2 points pretty much because of a "home field" advantage.

Once a line is set, it is then dictated by where the money is being bet. It opened at LSU a 1.5 point favorite. Apparently, a lot of dollars when being placed on Bama taking the points. The line is then adjusted to try to even out the money. Thus it swings the other way (Bama favored by 1). It's now kinda split where some betting houses have Bama favored by 1, some LSU favored by 1. What's strange is that there are no evens.

Thanks for the explanation. I play every weekend mostly NFL and LSU (and do win), but didnt understand fully how the line adjusts. The card I get usually comes out on a Tuesday so I know by game time it's probably gonna be different. I just assumed that LSU would be at least a 3 point favorite being virtually the home team.
