Most impartial observers would take the outcome of the first game and say the teams are evenly matched and that both teams had just as good of a chance of winning as the other. If both teams have an equal chance of winning then the probabilities are exactly as a coin flip. If the games are considered independent events ("the results of the first game do not affect the second") then the probability that either team wins two in a row is 50% as someone said earlier. So it is no harder to lose the second game than it is to win the second game if you consider the teams "evenly matched". The analysts that say that it is hard to beat the same team twice are really just saying that Alabama is a better team and more often than not would beat LSU. They're either hiding behind this rationalization rather than saying they think Bama is a better team, or they are just idiotically accepting this stupid meme.

Y'all are going to laugh - but "Ask Marilyn" in Parade Magazine stated that the chances of pulling a number, then pulling the same number a second time are the same.

For example, the odds of pulling the 1st number are 1 in a million - putting that number back in the pool for a second drawing, the pool is still a million, therefor the odds are the same.

Vegas thinks Bama has a 54% chance of winning THIS game (vs. LSU).

Its brought up because of a variety of factors. The teams are familiar with one another usually, and if a lesser team beats a better team (which some idiots still believe happened on 11/5) then they'll simply say the better team is more likely to win.

The thing they'll look back on are games like UF/FSU in 1996. They ignore the fact that UF lost @ FSU not at home. In the UW/Nebraska game last year, it had more to do with Nebraska settling for that bowl game and UW being excited to just be in one for the first time in God knows how long.

Bowl games (when these rematches most often happen) are overhyped because most of the time they are meaningless games. A championship game is a bigger deal and both teams will have no issues getting hyped up.

Isn't this similar to the argument Saban used to get Bama into the game?

All I hear here in Bama is that we didn't beat them the last time -----so this one should be a cakewalk!

[[quote]i]A few of the Alabama players and a dozen ESPN talking heads have said Alabama was better, LSU was lucky, I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake. A terrible flood. Locusts! IT WASN'T MY FAULT, I SWEAR TO GOD!

At the end of the day they know we beat them and we know it too. All of the spewed, pointless mind-garbage on the planet does not change the outcome from November 5th. And all of the sport psychologists on the planet can not keep Foster from puckering up a little when he walks in and sees those LSU jerseys across the field.

Their offense knows that, while Foster took the blame, they were unable to get him close enough for a reasonable chance at success.

Their defense knows they were gassed before the end of regulation.

And Les seems to own Saban.

Advantage- LSU[/i]

Couldn't have said it better.

Statistically speaking, it is hard to beat a team five times in the same season.

The theory is that the losing team will change its strategy and the winner won't make adjustments. Both teams will adjust. Les is real good at adjustments generally.

I think there might be a LITTLE something to that theory; but I don't know how much it applies to this game. I don't think LSU came away from that game thinking everything was swell. I'm sure their coaching staff feels it has to do some things differently.

Excellent point and right on. While LSU won they didn't blow the doors off of Bama. Some adjustments are obviously necessary.

I dunno, but I think after this rematch Bama will have another quality loss to brag about. Gumps really do love their quality losses.

Give Les Miles a full month to study and prepare. He hasn't failed his team yet.
