hat's rather irrelevant when comparing point guards don't you think?
It's part of his offensive game, so I don't think it's irrelevant, no.

Westbrook is/has been passing to Harden, Jeff Green, Ibaka, Perkins, and Durant.
Rose has been passing to Bogans, Deng, Boozer, and Noah.
Deng is a better offensive player at this point than everyone you named, except KD.
Boozer probably is too, though he was horrible last year.
But yes, Rose is "the guy" on his team while Westbrook is the default no. 2 offensive option. Which, to me, makes it more impressive that his numbers are in the same realm as Rose's.

Boozer is the same player he's always been Rose just sucks at the pick and roll

quote:Not to me. I think Westbrook benefits assist wise from having Durant around and benefits scoring wise from defenses keying on Durant. Again, this is not to discredit Westbrook, because he is a great player with or without Durnat, just important to note when comparing him and Rose. Being a number 2 option still allows for plenty of scoring opportunities in the NBA. I think Rose averaged 2.5 more FGA per game than Westbrook during the regular season last year.

Except for the fact that it's arguably the least important part of a point guard's offensive repertoire.

Eh, when Deng is having a great night or on a roll, I'll agree with that, but he isn't that consistent. Durant is easily one of the top 3-5 scoring options in the league. He is very versatile in how he can score points.

Boozer probably is too, though he was horrible last year.
Boozer is kind of like Deng in that when he is on, he's on. When he's off, he's off. Believe he suffered from a hand injury early last year as well.

By that same token, Westbrook has a top 5 threat on the roster to take pressure away from him. He's not counted on to be the number one scoring whereas Rose is counted on as the number one option on his team.
Westbrook is a great young point, I just don't think he's as good as Rose is at this point in time.

He took about 2.5 more a game as well.

Maybe. I'm not saying that a PG that can't rebound is worthless, I'm just saying that if one can, it's just another asset to his game.

It's going to be interesting to see how they progress going forward. They are the same age too. Westbrook had a better PER. I like him a "bit" more but not by much. I have no issue with anyone saying Rose is better than Westbrook, nor Westbrook > Rose.

Westbrook only average less than half an assist more per game than Rose, shot a lower percentage from the free throw line (grant not by much), but the biggest difference is their FG%. Westbrook is a career 42% guy while is a 47% guy. Rose took over 3 times the amount of 3's that Westbrook did and still not only had a higher overall FG%, but a higher 3 point percentage - his career 3-point percentage is better as well, but Westbrook is barely better than Rondo at 3s and Rose has been average so far at 3s though he is improving noticeably in that regard.

As of last year?
1) Rose
2) Westbrook
3) Paul
4) Williams

If you Griffin ahead of Kobe, then Paul has got to be 1.

Which is why I clearly stated these rankings as of last year.

True but it's not like Westbrook is rebounding like Rondo or like Kidd during his heyday either.

Rose is clearly a better shooter than Westbrook, whose jumper is almost as bad (but not quite) as Rondo's.
But, apparently Westbrook has worked on his stroke a lot.
What's nuts is that he was a 6th man at UCLA, and hasn't really been playing bball all that long. He's just a freak athlete still honing his skills.

I know. I was joking.

I think Westbrook is going to be awesome this year. Better than Rose? I don't know. He was ALMOST as good as Rose last year, so it's certainly possible.
I think Paul will have a great season too. With Williams in New Jersey, those three will definitely have the three best seasons at the point guard position.

I gotcha.
For the record, I'd definitely take Rose and Paul over Kobe this season. No doubt.
It's hard to make a prediction on Westbrook. If he shoots it better and finishes more consistently at the rim, then he's going to be a superstar player this year. He just needs to shoot over 45% from the field (whether he gets that done from the outside or driving to the rim) and he'd be a much better player.

I think I agree. At least Rose in the regular season. He is a beast without playoff defense.

Kobe lost his shooting stroke in late January last year. He needs to bounce back in the worst way, but don't underestimate the impact that the divorce will have on him. Granted the guy didn't give a damn before, but when you've played your arse off in the NBA for damn near half your life and then your wife tells you what? A week? Before the season that she is taking half your shite and peacing out, it's going to affect your game.

quote:Lawson has to be in the conversation. Same with Felton. I'd put both of those guys over Conley/Holiday
The first 5 seems pretty easy, some people will just have a different order, it gets harder at 6-10:
6. Nash
7. Lowry
8. Wall
9. Parker
10. Conley/Holiday
