but you hear analyst after analyst saying that LSU's strength is its depth... how do you get that depth? deep recruiting classes.

Our average recruiting level in the last 5 years is behind Bama's and Saban doesn't have the luxury of depth that LSU has.

What does that tell me? Miles is the best talent evaluator in the business. If he's recruiting you, you're a good one... frick what the recruiting websites think.

LSU does have depth but its not deeper than Bama's. I don't know where you get that notion. There are positions that you're deeper like DL. But we run a 3-4 looking for monsters where you run a 4-3 and the more typical size. You need more of those guys. I don't know where else you're deeper except maybe safety. 2 going NFL and frosh after that. But we're way deeper at LB.

And for "Born in BR" posting that CLM recruits more OL's. I went back and looked. In 2008-2011, LSU has taken 16 OL's and Bama has taken 17 OL's. Bama star rating slightly better (Bama 6 4*, 3 5*, LSU 8 4*, 1 5*). I knew "Born in BR" was FOS. That just shoots your entire cred. Saban recruits his needs as well or better. To knock on his recruiting is crazy.

ok. We'll settle for being deeper in the DL.

And at DB.
And at RB.
And at QB.
And at WR.

CNS puts too much emphasis on group think about the players he wants, he often lobbies the media about thier play, CLS just states how he enjoys how a player is playing.

Both can judge athletes very well. Only CLS has fun doing it.

I was talking about the shortage of offensive lineman LSU had in 2005 and 2006 due to the failure to recruit OL when Saban was at LSU. As far as my being full of shite as you say please read my post again and check your facts before casting aspersions on an objective statement. I respected Saban while he as at LSU but it was common knowledge that he did not recruit with emphasis on positions, but rather on star level.
Having said that I still maintain that Les Miles tends to recruit the best players for needed positions and Saban goes after the best players no matter the position. The latter strategy can leave some positions somewhat thin. How many offensive linemen played for Alabama during the November 5 game? Not many. That is why they appeared gassed late in the fourth quarter and overtime. I distinctly remember the entire starting offensive line for Alabama still playing late in the fourth quarter.

Hes just referring to sabans tail end recruiting. We were really thin at oline and while i dont blame saban i also cant fault miles for a horrible 05 class. Also saban has done an amazing job at bama, he built on what worked at lsu and perfected it.
