What is the official stance of LSU regarding Mike having a female to meet his natural companionship needs? I think the time has come for Mike to take a mate and have a family. As Tigers have neared extinction we can do our part in helping Mike contribute to the Tiger population.

Are there any students who can explore this possibility as a student movement on campus? If we could make this happen it would be a positive experience for all involved!

He gets his rocks off on that big blue ball in his cage. I saw him hump it once. It was hilarious.

How old is Mike? A male has to be about five before he mates.

Tigers do not bond, they just have a few beers and mate, then go home and go to sleep.

...I always thought that would be a good idea until I did a little research.

Tigers especially male ones, are solitary. For hunting purposes, it's more effective for them to be alone than have a group.

If you put two tigers together, there could be a serious fight. To have a problem in a small cage, would create a safety issue for the cats and everyone else.

Also, Mike is not a normal wild tiger. He really hasn't been exposed to other tigers since he was a cub. So, you really don't know how he will react.

I fully expect that introducing Mike to a Lady Tiger would be an experiment. You never know if they will mate and get along. I also understand it might be a temporary thing just for mating.
I don't know much about the mating of Tigers and what it might involve. But I do know it is done.

Current Mike (Rosco) is a "whoopsie" cub - concieved when two ostensibly horny cats got loose in the rescue shelter. And he's a mutt.

Not sure what the trim policy has been with Mikes past.

not sure if Mike VI has been snipped, but wouldn't be surprised because of his bloodline...

W;hy would you expose him to that. Nagging wife, crying kids, teenage attitudes. He just needs to call an escort service.

Exactly, and I doubt conservationists would want to muddle up the bloodlines of pure subspecies at this moment. Besides didn't they just say that there are probably more tigers in captivity now than there are left in the wild? I thought I read that somewhere.

If you actually want a serious answer, the official stance of LSU is that Mike will remain solitary. I asked his vet about it when we acquired Mike. It's like an earlier poster said... they are not social animals and more harm than good could come from it.
